MANSARDA - ART00024
About the home
This is one of our most bright and sunny units located on the 3rd floor of a traditional Tuscan building. With large windows throughout it allows in lots of natural light which lights up the colorful and charming space. It is located on a quiet and quaint side street immediately between the Piazza Santa Croce and Casa Buonarotti (Michelangelo's house).
Apartment has fully equipped kitchen including microwave, and small dining area. It also features a new bathroom with a shower.
Unit was renovated in March of 2007 while the brand new kitchen was installed in February 2010. It has one bedroom with double bed, shadow-box shelving and contemporary lighting. Large wood-beam ceilings are found throughout and add much character to this apartment.
It is within walking distance to an abundance of bars, restaurants, and shops not to mention the Duomo, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Signoria and the city's most famous museums and attractions.

The Tuscany / Firenze Province region
The most important/ popular museums and attractions in Florence based on our experience:
- Museo Nazionale del Bargello
- Piazza San Croce- Piazza Santa Croce is one of the most charming, and lively squares on the southeast side of Florence. This is a perfect square to sit and take it all in. The beautiful Basilica makes a stunning back drop for a lazy afternoon Panini, and some down-time!
- Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge)
- Museo delle Cappelle Medicee (closed Mondays)
- Museo di San Marco - Museo delle Pietre dure
The Florence area
In Florence as in most of Italy, there are time-honoured traditions when it comes to cuisine, etiquette and even the order in which food is served and eaten. Florentines are no exception to this rule and a traditional meal begins with what is commonly known as antipasti/antipasto (aka appetizers). Antipasti typically includes crostini mista (basically grilled baguette topped with a variety of toppings such a bruschetta, liver pate and/ or mushrooms), cured meats; typically prosciutto crudo (thinly sliced, uncooked ham) and/ or various salamis, and fresh tomato, mozzarella and basil, etc.
If you are looking for souvenirs there is a side-shop or souvenir stand just about anywhere you look however if you are looking to get it all done in one location your best bet is to hit Mercato San Lorenzo (in the same square as Cappelle Medici, often also called Piazza Madonna). This is large variety, stand, market selling just about every souvenir you could dream of! But remember to barter for the best deals! Post-cards can also be bought in most small shops along your travels, which is ideal as most also sell stamps. If you forget stamps during your purchase most tabacchis (smoke shops), marked with a large T-sign outside their shop, also sell them.
DISABLED TRAVELERS: Unfortunately the uneven ground and cobblestone streets often provide obstacles for those with disabilities when travelling around Florence, however a good point of reference is a brochure published by Florence Town Council (the Comune di Firenze; www.comune.firenze.it) called the Guida alle Strutture e ai Servizi della Citt , and names hundreds of monuments/hotels/ tourist sites/ banks, etc, which are more easily accessible for the disabled.

Florence has one main airport located approximately 5km?s from the city centre, and can easily be reached by bus (from city centre) travelling from the SITA station near the train station (SMN) in 15-20 minutes. There is also a 2nd airport option in Pisa- Galileo Galilei where many of the low-cost airlines fly from (ryanair.com, etc).
The majority of International flights will fly into the Pisa airport and generally there are few airlines flying directly into Florence (Lufthansa, etc). When considering flight options Bologna should be considered a reasonable third choice and is just a train ride away from Florence?s city centre. A handful of European and domestic flights serve Florence's smaller Amerigo Vespucci airport.
TO NOTE: When travelling into Florence be sure you are aware of whether you fly directly into Florence or into Pisa?s Galileo Galilei which will require a bus or train ride into Florence taking approximately 60-90 minutes.
BUSES/ ROAD TRAVEL: Though city buses can be useful in a city the size of Florence (where you can generally walk from one end to the other in 40-60 minutes) there is no real need to take buses. It will most likely take more time to wait for, and ride the bus from tourist site-to-tourist site then it would be to simply do so by foot. If you decide to attempt to figure out the city-bus routes watch for most buses to depart from stops scattered around the SMN station. To see bus routes and timetables you can check on www.ataf.net.
TO NOTE: Although some bus drivers will have tickets available for purchase on the bus this is NOT always the case. The most cost efficient way to travel by bus is to purchase 10 or 20 EUR passes, or a monthly pass dependent on the length of stay. If you purchase a 1-4 ride ticket be sure to validate this. Even for tourists fines can range from 45 EUR to 250 EUR for forgetting to validate you 2 EUR (or less) ticket!
