The area is known as Oltrarno (which means across the Arno river) and in particular, San Frediano.
Local attraction are Palazzo Pitti Boboli Gardens and Ponte Vecchio.
Since June 2011 the area around Palazzo Pitti has become a pedestrian area, making your walking even more pleasant.
This neighborhood is famous for quality craftsmen shops, antique dealers and some of the best trattoria and restaurants in town.
There are plenty of shops to cater for all your needs (fruit and veg market, grocery and wine shops, bakery, supermarket, travel agency, pharmacies, self service laundries, boutiques, etc.)
The Tuscany region
This region is the birthplace of the Renaissance, the olive groves and cypress trees of Tuscany are Italy itself and welcomes many visitors.
The beautiful rolling landscape with its cultivated vineyards and its remnant wildness, is a particularly unique and tranquil destination.
Within the landscape you will find some of the treasures of the Renaissance, Siena, Lucca and Pisa, home of one of the most recognisable landmarks in the world.
Florence City is set in the heart of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The city itself is a bustling centre retaining the medieval centre which boasts beautiful architecture, world-renown museums, ancient churches, and quaint boutiques.
Florence has museums, palaces, and churches which are some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. Definitely most popular and important sites in Florence include the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia.
The churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are veritable art galleries, and the library of San Lorenzo is a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo's architectural genius.

"Great location... bring good walking shoes"
We stayed in the European 4th floor apartment (which really means 5th floor in the US). It is in a great location for seeing the sites of Florence. You are within 5 minutes of the Old bridge and 10 minutes from the heart of Florence center. We were able to visit the sites and return to our apartment 2-3 times/day...returning groceries, souvenirs or just for taking a rest. The apartment is 80 steps up, so you do get your exercise,b ut take your time and it is fine. (We did this 2-3 times /day as mentioned, so not too bad). The covered parking garage is very close, so your car is accessible for day trips .
The apartment itself looks just like the photos on this site, so I did not add our own. The beds were a little hard for us, but we still rested well with the central air conditioning (really nice to have after a long day in the sun) There are thermostats in each room, so everyone could regulate their own preferences on air.
Diana has supplied all the dishes and pots and pans needed to make great meals. We made all our breakfasts and several dinners which allowed us to save money for other things we wanted to do or places we wanted to eat at. While we were there, there was an issue with smell in the apartment that may have been due to some nearby construction. It lasted about 2 -3 hours/night, but then went away. Ask Diana, if this issue has been resolved, as it is fairly unpleasant. (It is the only reason we rated this place a 4 and not 5 stars.)
Pitti Palace is just 3 minutes away and the Boboli gardens. Fun to sit and watch all the people walk by. One night we walked to the city center at night and they had a free concert of the philharmonic orchestra and another night a opera in the building next door. Wonderful!! The teenagers stayed in the apartment during these late night occasions and had fun looking at TV and using the wifi on their computers. Felt very safe!
There is a grocery store and a a fresh fruit and vegetable market all very close. Several butcher shops and bakery shops are in the area too if you don't mind walking 5 minutes or so to them. We loved having such great produce around. If you don't feel like cooking, there is a local pre-made food shop within 2 minutes that was very good. We were able to get great meals for four there too at about a third of the price of restaurants for dinner.
Enjoy Firenze. It is wonderful. The Artviva Original walking tour and their museum tours were great. Worth the price. Check them out on TripAdvisor too. The starting point is within 10 minutes of this apartment too, so no need for a car. Great access to Firenze from here.

Diana was so kind, helpful and accommodating. Our apartment was clean, spacious and a great place to stay for those who want to be outside of the tourist areas, but still close enough to walk to your … More
