The Normandy / Orne region

Lower Normandy has almost everything that you would expect from a holiday destination in the French countryside. The region is rightly famous for it's beautiful countryside, it's wide choice of chesses, especially Camembert and Pont Laveque as well as being the centre of the cider industry. Every where you go, you will see farms offering free tasting of their delicious cider and Calvados but try a sample of Pommeau as well, an aperitif about the same strength as sherry.
The area can provide fantastic outdoor activities in the beautiful Swisse Normande including canoeing, fishing, walking, mountain biking, golfing etc. The area is generally warmer than the UK and gets less rainfall and it can be quite mild through to the later part of the year.
There are many beautiful towns nearby including medievil Domfront with it's impressive ramparts, cobbled streets lined with cafes, Lornay L'Abbey with it's historic abbey, ancient cider press and biscuit factory. Other neaby towns worth visiting include Pont D'Oilly on the banks of the Orne and Clecy in the Swisse Normande.

Flers / St. Paul area

The house is juse 3 miles from Flers, the regional capital, with it's many chic shops and a wide variety of restaurants and cafes. It also has plenty for the children with an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and 10 pin bowling. There is a market twice weekly, the bigger one on Saturday with an indoor section selling freshly caught seafood at prices about a third cheaper than most places in the UK.
The house sits on the edge of the villages of St Paul and La Lande Patry and former has a great bakery within walking distance (about 800m) and there is a restrauant in La Lande Patry and another two very good restaurants in Landisaque about 2 miles from the house.
