About the home

This property is a great location for a very affordable price and is ideal for first time visitors, or returning guests to Tuscany. Ideal for a couple with one child, or two small children, on a budget.
The apartment is on the top floor of what was once an original family home, now converted into apartments, each with its own private entrance. it has a huge terrace with panoramic views for dining out or relaxing in the sun. The apartment is a one bedroom with a double bed, and a single fold out bed is also available. Fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower and european bathtub, living/dining room with working fireplace.

Ideally located in the village square or "piazza" with parking right at your front door. Lots to see and do in the area, walking, hiking, biking, fishing, swimming or visiting the local spa town a short drive away of Equi Terme for its natural sulphur waters and curing all that ails you!

The house retains some of its original features, wood beamed ceilings and has been restored to provide a comfortable environment in a great location, right in the heart of the village.
Spectacular views down the valley and the surrounding chestnut woods, and olive groves, as well as the magnificent Apuane mountain range. Wonderful area for exploring nature, deer are seen often grazing in the fields below the village. Suitable also for older clientèle, as this apartment is on a flat plain, ideal for parking the car under the house and easily accessing the apartment with shopping or luggage from your car.

Ideally located in the village square, parking directly outside your front door. Weekly deliveries are made to the village also for the locals who don't drive, and everything is brought to you, fruit, vegetables, household goods, meat, cheese and even fish brought in fresh once a week from the seaside resorts nearby. From your terrace you can watch the comings and going of the villagers at work, tending their crops or olive trees or vines, and make friends with the locals, who are always keen to see outsiders in their hilltop village. The terrace is very large and ideal if you have pets, or small children who can play safely, and stay within view of their parents. There are two lovely large public swimming pools, supervised a short fifteen minute drive away from the property and great dining in the area, which is delicious and very affordable. Details of all of these can be found in the apartment itself upon arrival.

Further details

A great working Tuscan village, with the local villagers tending their wine and olive trees. You will probably be invited to join them in one of their many festas, and taste the local foods and wines of the area. Lunigiana is famous for its excellent olive oil, and you will see many olive groves surrounding the village itself. Take a walk through the woods and up to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of the surrounding seven villages circling us, or enjoy a quiet un-trafficked bicycle ride around the area. Quiet, tranquil, clean air and outstanding views in the area and from the terrace of this lovely apartment. The property is managed by a wonderful couple, Mirca and Alberto and sometimes their daughter Manuela, who speaks excellent English, and I am sure you will be invited to one of their excellent dinners at home, as they love to make new friends each year!

The Tuscany / Massa Carrara Province region

Lunigiana. Land of the Moon. Known for its spectacularly clear starlit skies and great sunny days. The air is always clean and clear and makes for excellent sleeping, or catching a few rays under the pergola after a local home made lunch on your terrace. Plenty to see and do, Lucca, Pisa, Florence are all a great day out, as well as a must see visit to the seaside resorts of Lerici and the Cinque Terre, which can be accessed by boat or train.

Hike between the villages, stopping for a lovely seafood lunch in any of the five towns clinging to the side of the rocks, as they have for centuries.

The Fivizzano area

There is a small spa town of Equi Terme close by, with large and small swimming pools and all the spa treatments you could wish for with the curing waters of the area. Great local dining in the small towns surrounding us, and a lovely drive up to the neighbouring area of Garfagnana, is a must do. Wonderful castles to visit, and great outdoor musical concerts in the area all summer long.

The Apuane State National park is on your doorstep, and locally guided tours are available for those you want to see its interior or even those who fancy a more risky adventure of climbing one of the mountains seen from your rooftop terrace, an Italian national pastime! Festivals are held annually, music, cinema, and local arts and crafts in many of the surrounding villages and are advertised in the village square right outside of your apartment door - explore, they are fun, free and a great way to get to meet people and see historic points of interest, often involving local traditions and costumes. The Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago every June is a must - tickets can be bought on line or by visiting the local tourist office in Fivizzano a short fifteen minute drive away from the village.

Local village markets in Fivizzano and Casola, both towns offering full shopping facilities, supermarkets and local grocery stores, bakers, butchers, fruit and vegetables, etc. Full facilities also in Fivizzano of doctor, dentist, hairdresser and a large and excellent hospital are only a short drive away from the village. Great people watching from the terrace as the entire villager go to and fro on their daily chores.

Easy access from Pisa or Genova airports. A one hour and fifteen minute drive to the property. Serviced by RyanAir, Easyjet, British Airways and more. Can also be accessed by Milan airport - slightly longer, two and a half hours drive to the property. Rental cars are available at all major airports. Parking is available at the front door of this property.
