Home description

Les Hirondelles is a luxury villa set down its own private drive. Nestling in the lea of a hill, backing onto vineyards the villa faces south for all day sunshine. The villa is located in the historic, pretty part of Fitou village, just 5 minutes walk from the centre, with it's four restaurants, boulangerie, tabac, snack bar and supermarket and just 10 minutes drive from the Mediterranean's sandy beaches and ports.

The villa is light and airy and has been furnished to a high standard - the spacious, high ceilinged living room opens out on to a large covered terrace, beautiful pool and garden.

The comfortable, stylish interior is open plan with squashy sofas and armchairs, a huge dining table, and a fully fitted kitchen containing all the kit you would expect! Three double bedrooms are well appointed - two twins and a master with en suite. The villa also has English TV via satellite, a selection of games, DVDs and CDs and is fitted with reversible air-conditioning/central heating throughout.

Outside, the covered terrace by the pool is perfect for eating al fresco with views to the hills. Around the pool are comfortable sunbeds and low tables - a real sun trap. There is also a large 'Hot Spot' barbeque and a second shaded terrace with table and chairs.

If you decide that you've had enough lazing by the pool, BBQing and eating langorous lunches on the terrace - remember golden sandy beaches are just 10 minutes drive, the hills with views to the Spanish border are right behind the villa, and the Mediaeval chateau (and bar!) a short stroll away. Wine tasting is available at numerous Caves in the village, and the oysters fresh from the 'Etang' (salt lake) at Leucate are sublime.

So, just about your every need is catered for - with the best restaurant in Fitou, Cave D'Agnes, just a few minutes walk down the lane!

The region boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, and truly offers something for everyone whether families, couples or friends, sea or land lovers ....we would like to tempt you to a holiday in Fitou!

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

The region boasts one of the best sunshine rates in France. Mount Canigou dominates the area with all the benefits of being near the mountains (walking/skiing/rivers/gorges) - yet the beaches are sublime, with miles of white sand, lakes/etangs for fishing, oyster beds or simply messing about in a boat. The beautiful freshwater gorge at Gouleyrous is well worth a visit.

The whole Catalan area is steeped in history with many ancient forts to discover, and the Roman Via Domicia which passes Fitou village, being the ancient route between Spain and France.

Walkers, wine lovers, sea and surf fanatics, history buffs, children and families will all fall in love with the region. You can involve yourself in local activities (brilliant African Safari Park, Adventure Park, Water Park) or lose yourself well away from the crowds in the wild and immense countryside and endless beaches. Kite-surfers abound, yet the sea bed shelves gently, particularly at La Franqui- great for kids.

Fitou area

Fitou is an ancient, world renowned wine village. It boasts it's own mediaeval chateau, with amazing views from the terrace bar over the mediterranian. The village is full of wine caves - so if you enjoy wine tasting (Fitou & Muscat at it's finest), you only need to totter from the front door of Les Hirondelles. Restaurants, boulangerie, bar a short stroll and supermarket in village. Hill walking from the doorstep, views to mountains and sea.
Many beautiful white sandy beaches within 10-15 minute drive. Ancient forts, caves & vineyards, gorges, Roman remains (Narbonne/Via Domicia). Horse riding, fishing, surfing & kite surfing, sailing, boating, windsurfing, white water rafting, cycling, swimming, tennis, football, cinema, Safari Park, Water Park, Adventure Park - all nearby. Shopping (chic boutiques) in Perpignan and Narbonne. Under two hours to visit Spain or the mountain ski resorts of Les Angles and Font Romeau, one hour from the historic walled city of Carcassonne.
Fitou is very hot on events, brocantes (street markets) occur regularly during the summer, plus wine festivals, Easter and Summer extravaganzas with live music and fireworks.

Guestbook

....Beautiful villa in a wonderful village, delicious days spent around the pool, relaxing, BBQing, and evenings star gazing! Early morning sortie's to get fresh croissants and baguettes, late night toddles back from Cave d'Agnes after a sumptuous supper......

....We had a wonderful holiday, made all the more special because we looked forward to "going home" to the house each evening....

....Thanks to your great information folder, we swam in the gorge at Tautavel, crept gingerly along the road at the gorge at Galymous, sunbathed and caught crabs at Le Franqui and Leucate, visited Perpignan, Narbonne and Carcassonne and many other smaller towns and villages....
