Les Hirondelles is a luxury villa set down its own private drive. Nestling in the lea of a hill, backing onto vineyards the villa faces south for all day sunshine. The villa is located in the historic, pretty part of Fitou village, just 5 minutes walk from the centre, with it's four restaurants, boulangerie, tabac, snack bar and supermarket and just 10 minutes drive from the Mediterranean's sandy beaches and ports.

The villa is light and airy and has been furnished to a high standard - the spacious, high ceilinged living room opens out on to a large covered terrace, beautiful pool and garden.

The comfortable, stylish interior is open plan with squashy sofas and armchairs, a huge dining table, and a fully fitted kitchen containing all the kit you would expect! Three double bedrooms are well appointed - two twins and a master with en suite. The villa also has a TV with most UK channels, wifi internet access, a selection of games, DVDs and CDs and is fitted with reversible air-conditioning/central heating throughout.

Outside, there is a large covered dining terrace reached through double french windows from the living room, overlooking the pool - perfect for eating al fresco with views to the hills. Around the pool are comfortable sunbeds and low tables - a real sun trap. There is also a large 'Hot Spot' barbecue.

If you decide that you've had enough lazing by the pool, BBQing and eating langorous lunches on the terrace - remember golden sandy beaches are just 10 minutes drive, the hills with views to the Spanish border are right behind the villa, and the Medieval chateau (and bar) a short stroll away. Wine tasting is available at numerous Caves in the village, and the oysters fresh from the 'Etang' (salt lake) at Leucate are sublime.

So, just about your every need is catered for - with two of the best restaurants in Fitou, Le Toit Vert and Cave D'Agnes, just a few minutes walk down the lane.

The region boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, and truly offers something for everyone whether families, couples or friends, sea or land lovers ....we would like to tempt you to a holiday in Fitou!

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The region boasts one of the best sunshine rates in France. Mount Canigou dominates the area with all the benefits of being near the mountains (walking/skiing/rivers/gorges) - yet the beaches are sublime, with miles of white sand, lakes/etangs for fishing, oyster beds or simply messing about in a boat. The beautiful freshwater gorge at Gouleyrous is well worth a visit.

The whole Catalan area is steeped in history with many ancient forts to discover, and the Roman Via Domicia which passes Fitou village, being the ancient route between Spain and France.

Walkers, wine lovers, sea and surf fanatics, history buffs, children and families will all fall in love with the region. You can involve yourself in local activities (brilliant African Safari Park, Adventure Park, Water Park) or lose yourself well away from the crowds in the wild and immense countryside and endless beaches. Kite-surfers abound, yet the sea bed shelves gently, particularly at La Franqui- great for kids.

Fitou is an ancient, world renowned wine village. It boasts it's own mediaeval chateau, with amazing views from the terrace bar over the mediterranian. The village is full of wine caves - so if you enjoy wine tasting (Fitou & Muscat at it's finest), you only need to totter from the front door of Les Hirondelles. Restaurants, boulangerie, bar a short stroll and supermarket in village. Hill walking from the doorstep, views to mountains and sea.

Many beautiful white sandy beaches within 10-15 minute drive. Ancient forts, caves & vineyards, gorges, Roman remains (Narbonne/Via Domicia). Horse riding, fishing, surfing & kite surfing, sailing, boating, windsurfing, white water rafting, cycling, swimming, tennis, football, cinema, Safari Park, Water Park, Adventure Park - all nearby. Shopping (chic boutiques) in Perpignan and Narbonne. Under two hours to visit Spain or the mountain ski resorts of Les Angles and Font Romeau, one hour from the historic walled city of Carcassonne.

Fitou is very hot on events, brocantes (street markets) occur regularly during the summer, plus wine festivals, Easter and Summer extravaganzas with live music and fireworks.

Our family had a fantastic holiday in this beautiful holiday house in July - we stayed 3 weeks and did not want to leave. We loved the house and Fitou and the area: loads to do. The house is really wo… More

So glad you had such a lovely time - thanks for your comment about furnishings, we have tried to make the villa a little different from the usual 'lettings furnishing', using lovely pieces that we would enjoy at home, with good quality beds, linen, lighting, all with character. Look forward to welcoming you back soon!

"Very well equipped and a good location from which to explore."

Les Hirondelles was an extremely well equipped and well maintained villa which suited us and our two teenagers very well. The air conditioning was a very welcome and, I think, necessary facility and the outside areas were particularly good. The general decor and standard of upkeep was also very pleasing. We visited Salses-le-Chateau, Villefrancches, the Grottes, Narbonne, Carcassonnne and the Abbay de Fontfroide and found the villa to be a great location for exploring.

"Lovely villa - Superb week"

My family stayed at Les Hirondelles the first week of September. The booking process with the owner was very easy with regular contact via e-mail. On arrival we were met and shown around the villa. The village was very quiet but this may have been as we were visiting at the end of the summer season. The villa was modern spacious and had everything we needed for our stay in Fitou. We especially enjoyed the pool and table tennis. We visited the abandoned village of Perillos and found a very large cave nearby which is well worth looking at. All in all our stay was very nice. The villa is surrounded by grapevines, fig trees, almond trees, apple trees and plenty of places to walk and enjoy the views.

"Easily the best equipped and maintained villa we have rented"

We had a lovely time and smashing weather. I understand that you were out last week so I hope the weather held for you as it was a bit variable in Gerona where we went next.

This villa is easily, by a long way, the best maintained and equipped that we have ever rented. We did a deal with our 3 adult children that each of them would cook dinner one night. The brilliant kitchen made this so much easier!

The other two nights we went to Cave d'Agnes. They were lovely, and the food, wine and ambiance was perfect.

"A perfect retreat for a relaxing holiday"

We visited Les Hirondellles with friends and were very impressed with the location of the villa. In a quiet spot on the edge of the village, but within walking distance of excellent restaurants. There is plenty to see and do locally but we spent most of our time relaxing by the fabulous pool. The villa is also spacious and very well equipped, a real home from home plus!

"Fantastic villa, fantastic weather, fantasitic restaurants in a fantastic village - what more could you want?!"

All very neat, tidy and welcoming on arrival, a real home-from-home... except for the pool, the weather, the restauarnts, the beach, the village, the local countryside, the wines - in fact nothing at all like being at home in the UK's unreliable, dreary, cold, wet summer! What more could you want for a chill-out, away-from-it all holiday? Absolutely perfect - we will return!!
