The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
Boasting a Mediterranean climate tempered by the breezes that make this such a popular sailing region, Fitou lies between the limestone foothills of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. The Domain De Pedros is built on the neck of a small rocky peninsular jutting into the shallow Etang de Leucate, a large salt water lake that is connected to the sea through channels at Leucate and Barcares. This region was fought over and changed hands many times since the Romans first built vineyards here 600BC. In particular the infamous wars by the Church in Rome against the indigenous Cathars has left spectacular castles on mountains and clifftops, many beautifully restored. The great cities of Perpignon, Narbonne, Carcassonne and Toulouse with their historic medieval centres all lie within a short drive. You can visit this region year on year and still only scratch the surface
Fitou area
Fitou is at the heart of one of the world’s great wine growing regions and as such has a proliferation of vineyards and wine caves, but there is much more to the area than wine; the coast boasts miles of the best beaches in France including the much favoured La Franqui beach just a few minutes drive away, the Pyrenees are an ever present snow-capped backdrop, (an exciting trip on the “Little Yellow Train”) and close by are deep limestone caves and gorges, topped by spectacular Cathar fortified chateaux and castles. The salt water etangs (lakes) between land and the coastal sand bar provide a brilliant location for wind surfing and other water sports as well as home for a myriad of flamingos and are a rich source of home-grown shellfish and other seafood. There is a huge safari park within 15 minutes and the coastal strip on the Mediterranean has water parks and all the other sea side activities that go to make a great holiday. Restaurants abound in a host of quaint villages both rural and coastal. The quality of the light is such that the coastal villages such as Collioure were favoured by Picasso, Dali and many other great artists. There are local markets in the villages almost on a daily basis and throughout the summer a host of local festivals -such as the "sardinade" within the Domain itself.

- BY AIR with budget airlines Ryanair, Flybe, BMI Baby, easyjet and BA flying in to Perpignan (20 mins), Carcassonne (50 mins), Girona (Spain) (1hr 10mins), Montpellier (60 mins), Toulouse (120 mins) or Barcelona (120mins).
- BY TRAIN with Eurostar from Waterloo or Ashford to Paris or Lille (1-2 hours) and then SNCF to Narbonne or Perpignan (approx 5-6 hours).
- BY MOTORAIL from Calais to Narbonne.

Further details indoors: The whole apartment was renovateded as new in 2007 and fitted throughout with new furniture and equipment later the same year. It has a spacious well lit lounge which is furnished to a high standard and opens through a large sliding glass door framed with brilliant bougainvillea onto the large private patio terrace with a big sunshade, brick built BBQ and an outdoor table seating six persons. The lounge itself has a dining table which extends to seat six, comfortable lounge seating for four and entertainment is provided by a television, dvd player, radio and CD. The wide twin beds in the bedroom may be kept apart as single beds or put together to make a very large double, as guests desire. The sofa bed (click-clack!) in the lounge is a high end model and becomes an extremely comfortable large double bed when required. A modern banquette with a coffee maker gives additional spacious work surface and separates the well equipped kitchen from the living space, adding to the convenience of this well laid out apartment.
Further details outdoors: The private terrace is large enough to accommodate the six person table and sunshade as well as providing sunbathing space and a big BBQ. It opens on to a second, larger private terrace, shared with the adjacent apartments, which is secured by a surrounding wall and lockable door at each end, making an ultra-safe area for children to play. The apartment’s dedicated car-parking space is immediately outside this larger terrace, on the same level. The two swimming pools as well as a fenced children’s play area and tennis courts are all within easy reach. The whole exclusive domain, with its mixture of pine and palm trees set in well-kept gardens with lots of scented wild thyme amongst the rocks, is criss-crossed with paths under the shady trees and is a delightful oasis of tranquillity. With direct access to the lake and its watersport facilities and fishing, as well as local festivals held in the domain, fun will be hard to avoid.
