About this location
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The region is renowned for it’s un-crowded sandy beaches, vineyards, medieval castles and unspoilt villages.
Tourist attractions include Carcassonne, Collioure, Canal du Midi, Ceret, the Pyrenees, Figueres (the Salvadore Dali museum) and Spain, all within an hour's drive. Further afield is Montpellier (90 minutes) and Barcelona (two hours). Barcelona can also be easily reached by the excellent local train service also serving Narbonne, Perpignan and Toulouse.
Outdoor activities include swimming, water sports, sailing, scuba-diving, windsurfing and horse riding. There is a waterpark at Port Leucate and a Safari park zoo at Sigean. There are numerous walks in the nearby Corbiere hills and the Pyrenees. The "Little Yellow Train" will take you on a scenic route into the mountains with views of snow capped Mt Canigou. Ski resorts are less than a two hours drive.
Fitou is a world famous wine village with numerous caves where there is every opportunity to sample and purchase the renowned Fitou wines. These genuine Fitou wines are consumed locally or within France and are rarely found abroad.
There are four excellent restaurants serving fresh local produce. The local Fitou chateau, only a 10 minute walk from the Domaine, also has a bar/terrace which serves tapas and snacks.
The Domaine is a safe, quiet, peaceful environment with well maintained landscaped gardens and open spaces designed for year round living. There is a mixture of permanent residents and holiday homes with the majority of residents and owners from the UK, France and Scandinavia. Many owners visit during the quieter months so, even in high season, it is never too busy.
The village has much character with a thriving, friendly community. There is a boulangerie, post office, bar/tabac, hairdresser and supermarket, all within easy walking distance from the Domaine. Tennis and football facilities are also available.
There are numerous walks in the surrounding hills providing stunning views of the mountains and coast. The coastal walk from the lighthouse at Leucate Plage to La Franqui is a delight. During the summer months there are numerous wine and food festivals with live music, dancing and entertainment provided.
The nearby town of Leucate has more restaurants, banks and a bigger supermarket. The town square has outside restaurants where you can eat or simply take coffee and watch the world go by.
The" Centre Commercial" at Claira (near the autoroute access) has a big Carrefour hypermarket with a whole range of clothing, diy and electrical shops, a cinema complex and a host of fast food outlets. This is a must for a serious shop!
The nearby small provincial cities of Perpignan and Narbonne are well worth a visit. Perpignan definately has a Catalan influence while Narbonne is simply Mediteranean.
There is much history in the region with a host of Cathar castles and lovely quiet, old villages inland. The Pyrenees and the Corbieres are a constant backdrop. The mysterious Rennes le Chateau attracts lots of interest. Further afield, Carcassonne is simply beautiful - the view of the old city from the autoroute is breathtaking.

"The best self catering holiday acommodation we've ever had!"
In a nutshell....
We were blown away by this apartment!
The thought and care gone into setting the accommodation up is astounding. It really did have everything (and i mean everything) that we needed and then some.
My wife and I stayed with our two young children, Hannah (10) and Emily (4) and the holiday was everything we were praying it would be.
The apartment was faultless, the views of the mediterranean from the terrace are a joy. The nearest beach is an easy 15 minute drive and is one of the best beaches in the region.
The area in generally we found fascinating. A superbly rich history (I love my Knights Templar stuff) and lots of things to do and see for kids (of all ages).
Would I recommend this accommodation? In a heartbeat!
