The Cornwall region
Cornwall has so much to offer with Truro, Padstow, St Ives & Falmouth all within a 45 minute drive and a vast collection of restaurants, shops and galleries to enjoy. Renowned restaurants owned by Rick Stein (Seafood Restaurant, Padstow) and Jamie Oliver (Fifteen, Watergate Bay) are easy to reach by car.
Especially Rick Stein's influence has brought the standard of local eateries to a highly competitive level, with his seafood school, restaurants and bakeries. Local attractions include the Camel Valley Vineyard at Bodmin, which is 'Britain's Number one Winery'.
Tintagel Castle the legendary birth place of King Arthur with beautiful double waterfall and the lower pool is deep enough for an exhilarating plunge. It was here that king Arthur is said to have brought his knights to be baptised before their quest for the Holy Grail-Camelford.
Cornwall's Open Studios accommodates around one hundred and sixty artist and craftspeople display ceramics, paintings, photography, sculpture and more.
Newquay is a fabulous place to holiday. It enjoys a particularly mild climate and with an early Spring ,good Summer and sunshine late into the Autumn.
Even the Winters are milder than most of the UK.
Newquay has great beaches including one of the finest surfing beaches in Europe ,Fistral from which you are literally 100m.Having travelled the world, the Cornish coastline is second to none and this is a great place from which to explore it. Ideally situated for day trips; Dairyland and the theme parks Crealy and Flambards are good fun for families. Eden project and the Lost gardens of Heligan make for a great day out. There are also some lovely National trust properties nearby like Trelissick, Trerice and Bedruthan Steps which are all worth a visit. Watergate Bay and The Extreme Academy are closeby for the adventurous types .And for the foodie Cornwall is definitely on the map with the Beach Hut ,Paul Ainsworths' No 6 and Rick Steins in Padstow 20mins away and while there why not combine it with a visit to the camel trail and a cycle to the Camel Valley Vineyard. Literally there is something for everyone.
