The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region

Pembrokeshire's is renowned for its stunning scenery both in the countryside locations and on the superb coastline as well as friendly villages and towns. It was made Britain's first coastal National Park in 1952 and has more than 155,000 acres of land in its care. Excellent walking and superb views can be enjoyed along the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire Coast footpath as well as in the Preseli hills which are full of magic and mystery with standing stones and ancient mounds and forts steeped in history. Pembrokeshire offers peace and tranquillity enticing holidaymakers to return time after time. Then there are the beaches, coves and bays with literally miles of gold and silver sand – find you favourite beach – whether its for sandcastles, surfing, swimming, boating, climbing, coasteering, rock pooling, cricket, picnics or just relaxing. The coastline and villages have changed very little over the years however they do provide some excellent individual shops, galleries and artists' studios as well as providing welcoming restaurants, pubs and cafes. Pembrokeshire is the second best coastal destination in the world according to National Geographic magazine beating places like the Seychelles, Bermuda and Costa Rica.

Fishguard

The Gwaun Valley is about 3 miles from Newport and is an enchanting and beautiful wide tree lined valley which is wonderful for bird watching, walking and peace and quiet. The residents of the valley still celebrate the New Year (Hen Galan) on January 13th following the old Julian calendar as they didn't adopt the Gregorian calendar which we all now use. Step back in time and have a pint at the Dyffryn Arms (locally known as Bessie's after the landlady) where ale is still drawn from the cask and poured from an enamel jug.
