The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region

Fishguard and Goodwick are ideal holiday destinations on the coast with the twice daily ferries sailing from the pretty harbour to Rosslare in Ireland. In 1797 the last invasion of Britain took place here and was thwarted by a local heroine by the name of Jemima Nicholas and her pitchfork – today you can visit the commemorative tapestry, (compared to the Bayeux Tapestry). The town also hosts an international music festival each July as well as a Jazz festival and colourful carnival. There is a small Theatre, Leisure Centre, churches, banks, numerous pubs, individual shops and boutiques, several galleries and eateries. Fishguard Bay has Strumble Head to the northwest and Dinas Head to the northeast making this stretch of coast-scape very beautiful indeed. Fishguard is the terminus for the Paddington train so you could holiday here without the need of a car.

Pembrokeshire's is renowned for its stunning scenery both in the countryside locations and on the superb coastline as well as friendly villages and towns. It was made Britain's first coastal National Park in 1952 and has more than 155,000 acres of land in its care. Excellent walking and superb views can be enjoyed along the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire Coast footpath as well as in the Preseli hills which are full of magic and mystery with standing stones and ancient mounds and forts steeped in history. Pembrokeshire offers peace and tranquillity enticing holidaymakers to return time after time. Then there are the beaches, coves and bays with literally miles of gold and silver sand – find you favourite beach – whether its for sandcastles, surfing, swimming, boating, climbing, coasteering, rock pooling, cricket, picnics or just relaxing. The coastline and villages have changed very little over the years however they do provide some excellent individual shops, galleries and artists' studios as well as providing welcoming restaurants, pubs and cafes. Pembrokeshire is the second best coastal destination in the world according to National Geographic magazine beating places like the Seychelles, Bermuda and Costa Rica.
