Home description
Haus-Spencer occupies a lovely position near the centre of the village of Filzmoos. Filzmoos is an attractive, traditional Austrian village set amidst magnificent scenery at the foot of the Bischofsműtze Mountain and Dachstein glacier, conveniently located only 45 minutes from the beautiful city of Salzburg and in the heart of the “ski amade region”, Austria’s largest interlinked skiing area.
Haus-Spencer is ideally located within 5 minutes walking distance from the main Papageno gondola and nursery slopes. With guaranteed snow, owing to its location, the ski resort of Filzmoos caters for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers as well as offering wide open spaces for snow boarders. The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region
The SalzburgerLand (the Austrian state of Salzburg) - with its primary river, the Salzach - lies between Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia, Tyrol and Bavaria (Germany). Running through the south are the main ranges of the Central Alps (incl. the Hohe Tauern mountains) with numerous 3,000-metre peaks. The Dachstein Massif and the Berchtesgaden Alps border the SalzburgerLand to the east and north. It goes virtually without saying that salt plays a major role in the history of Salzburg - after all, it's what gives the city and state their names. Because of its vast salt deposits, the state made quite a name for itself and attained great wealth. Salt, often referred to as "White Gold", made so much possible. It financed the construction of numerous buildings, for example. Even to this day, "The Sound of Music" is one of the most shown movies in history (standing right alongside "Gone with the Wind" and "Terminator"). And its popular song, "Edelweiss", was the most sold single in musical history after Bing Crosby's "White Christmas". Three of every four American tourists cite "The Sound of Music" as the main reason for their trip to Austria. Korean youngsters learn songs from the movie in their English classes, Dutch magazines put on trips for their readers to visit the movie's major shooting venues, while TV stations from Australia to Zimbabwe regularly broadcast the movie to this very day at either Christmas, Easter or New Year.
Filzmoos area
A small village in the Sportwelt Amadé region (access to 860km of piste, 270 lifts and 25 resorts), Filzmoos dates back to Edwardian times, when it was a popular destination with the wealthy crowd from Vienna.
Its ski area is shared with neighbouring Neuberg and covers 32km reached by 17 lifts. It's a friendly and unspoilt spot and it has some gentle slopes which are ideal for novices. In addition, for more capable skiers, the Ski Amade lift pass covers 25 villages on the 1 lift pass totalling nearly 900km of skiing in 25 resorts including Flachau, Zauchensee and Schladming. We offer guests transport to and from some of the other local ski resorts. There is a charge for this service.
The highest skiing is at 1,645m, which drops down to the resort level of 1,057m.
In January each year a week long International balloon festival comes to Filzmoos. Flights can be taken each day (weather permitting of course) from the village. The main spectacle is the 'Night of the Balloons' when about 40 hot air balloons are present in the village. The pilots coincide lighting up their balloons in time to classical music. Something not to be missed! Balloon week 2010 is the 9th to the 16th of January, and the 'Night of the Balloons' is January 10th.
Set at the foot of the Bischofsmütze mountain, the area has a good record for snowfall. There is no through-traffic and the après-ski comes highly recommended. For cross-country skiers, there are 30km of picturesque trails.
How to get there

CAR HIRE The airports are well served by many reasonably priced car hire firms.
One good tip is to compare car hire prices via a comparison website, such as www.travelsupermarket.com . Be careful when booking, as although you can pay over the net by debit card, you will be asked for a credit card at most car hire offices at Salzburg airport, to take a €400 to €700 charge (not actual debit) in case of, for example, an accident during the hire, or not filling the car up with petrol/diesel when the car is returned. If you only have a debit card you will not be allowed to take the car from these particular hirers, and you will more than likely lose the money you have already paid. Make sure you read the terms and conditions before you pay. One of the firms that do take a debit card (as of October 2007) is Denzel Drive.
GETTING TO HAUS-SPENCER FROM SALZBURG
1.Travelling by car
The car hire terminal is located directly opposite the main airport exit.
After collecting the car you will pass the entrance to the car hire terminal on your left. You then need to keep to the left of the road following the signs to 'Vienna & Munich'. You will arrive at a set of traffic lights, taking the middle lane, go straight ahead then bear left proceeding directly under the underpass. Go straight over the roundabout and then take the slip road for the A10 Autobahn directly after passing under the next bridge. Follow the A10 to junction 60, signposted to 'Eben', and then keep to the left at the T junction. Go under the Autobahn then almost immediately turn left again signposted 'Filzmoos'. Upon reaching the roundabout in the centre of the village take the first exit to the right. Take the next left, approximately 150m after the 'Adeg' Supermarket. Haus-Spencer is located on the left at the top of this short road. Car park spaces are provided at the rear of the building.
Points to Remember As you will be travelling on the Autobahn, you must display a 'vignette'. This can be purchased from Autobahn service stations before you enter Austria and cost approximately €8 for 10 days. Make sure this is displayed in your windscreen. You will normally find these already displayed in hire cars picked up at Salzburg Airport, but it is still worth checking! Also, make sure you display your headlights at all times.2.Travelling by train and busFrom Salzburg Airport you can take the trolley bus service directly into Salzburg centre to the railway and bus station, which are next to each other. (This service runs every 10 minutes.) The trolley bus leaves from outside the main airport exit.
2. Trains from Salzburg The easiest route is to take the train to Radstadt. You can then take a taxi to Filzmoos, which is 18km from Radstadt.
An alternative is to take the train to Eben, changing at Bischofshofen, then a taxi to Filzmoos. Eben is 11km from us.
You can view train times on the national rail website at www.oebb.at which fortunately is also in English!
3. Bus from Salzburg Take bus number 270 to Eben, change here, and then take bus number 521 to Filzmoos. Bus timetables can be viewed on the same website as for trains.
4. Travelling by car from England Hull to Zeebrugge You need to take the overnight ferry. Most of the trip after this is by motorway through France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. There are no motorway tolls. Don’t forget the 'vignette' sticker!
Dover to Calais Either through the Tunnel or over by ferry, then you will arrive with us in approximately 10 to 14 hours depending upon road conditions. Don't forget your 'vignette' sticker!
