Home description

Haus Schnalps is a traditional style Austrian Chalet.
.
The nearest ski lift is just 100m away which is the Geierberg T bar lift.
The ski bus can be caught from a nearby Hotel (about 150m away) into Filzmoos
Filzmoos is about 3.5 km away with a variety of ski hire shops, 3 ski schools and numerous eating opportunities.
There are 7 cross country loipes in and around Neuberg / Filzmoos including the 1700m high level trail on the Rossbrand.

In summer there are many activities possible including

Walking / Hiking - there are 200kms of trails around Neuberg / Filzmoos and 50+ routes described in a book of local walks available from the tourist office.

There are some good golf courses in the area including an excellent Berhard Langer designed course at Schladming 25 minutes drive away.

Filzmoos has a small leisure centre with a swimming pool
In the town of Eben at the top of the valley is an outdoor swimming lake.

The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region

The Austrian Alps around Filzmoos are just 45 minutes drive south of Salzburg airport and so very accessible.
Salzburg itself is Austria's 4th largest city and generally regarded as its prettiest.
The old town is steeped in history and there is also the connection with the "sound of music " film.
Other areas of interest in the area include the following
Berchtesgarden , Werfen castle (where the "The eagle has landed film was filmed"), Eisresienwelt (Europes largest ice caves), Krimmlwaterfalls, the spa's in the Gastein valley, The Dachstein glacier, outdoor swim parks, mountain bike parks (Schladming has a world class one), golf courses (there is a Berhard Langer designed course at Schladming )


Filzmoos / Neuberg area

Filzmoos is an alpine village at about 1000m with a very traditional Austrian feel.
It is dominated by the Bishofsmutze twin peaked mountain and has 8 lifts and 17 ski runs as well as 7 cross country loipes.
In addition, for more capable skiers, the Ski Amade lift pass covers 25 villages on the 1 lift pass totalling nearly 900km of skiing in 25 resorts including Flachau, Zauchensee and Schladming.
Filzmoos has 3 ski schools and 4 ski hire shops.
There is in winter a toboggan run from the top of the chairlift in the evenings.
In January each year a week long International balloon festival comes to Filzmoos (In 2008 it is the 12th to the 18th January with the highlight being the "night of the balloons" (Sunday 13th January 2008) when about 40 hot air balloons are present in the village at night.

There are a large range of eating opportunities in Filzmoos to cover most tastes.

How to Reach us from Salzburg by:
Car

On arrival at Salzburg airport the car hire terminal is across the road directly opposite the main airport door. After collecting your hire car, please use the following as a guide to reaching us.

Leave Salzburg airport bearing left at the end of the car hire terminal and follow the road to the traffic lights. Follow the A10 autobahn signs to Villach, passing over a couple of roundabouts and join the slip road to the right directly after passing under the bridge. Continue down the A10 for approximately 35 minutes and take the exit signposted Eben (directly after the Landzeit service station). Turn left at the bottom of the slip road and take your first left again signposted Filzmoos 11km. Continue on this road until you reach the turn off for Neuberg. Drive past the turn on the left and take the next left (a small lane just 15 yards further on) continue past the Geierberg T bar up the slope and take your first right and then bear left to arrive at Haus Schnalps (30-40metres).
When driving on the Austrian motorways you will require a ‘Vignette’ which can be purchased at the motorway service stations before entering Austria and costs approximately 8 Euros for 10 days. This needs to be displayed in your windscreen. These are usually already supplied on hire cars.

Train and Bus

On arrival at Salzburg airport there is a trolley bus service every ten minutes into Salzburg centre directly into the main railway and bus station. These are both side by side in the city centre. Trains

The trains run from Salzburg directly into Radstadt and then via taxi which is 18km from Filzmoos.
The train also runs from Salzburg to Eben, again onwards to Filzmoos via taxi which is 11km. On this route you have to change at Bischofshofen to Eben.

Bus

The bus runs from Salzburg to Filzmoos for which you have to change at Eben. The bus number from Salzburg to Eben is 270 and the bus number from Eben to Filzmoos is 521.

Travel by Car from England
Austria is easily accessed by car on the ferry or tunnel from Dover to Calais and from Hull to Zeebrugge. The ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge is an overnight ferry and can refresh you before your trip onto Austria. The journey on the motorways through France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany is quite straight forward. There are no motorway tolls on this stretch of the journey. Before entering into Austria you will be required to purchase a ‘Vignette’ and stick this into your windscreen. This can be purchased at motorway service stations for approximately 8 Euros for 10 days.
The journey from the French coast takes approximately 10 to 14 hours depending on road conditions at the time.

There are 4 rooms all with en suite facilities and balcony available on a bed and breakfast basis.
Some of the rooms have additional beds.
There is 1 x 2-4 person self catering studio apartment.
The apartment has 1 double bed and 2 good size bunk beds in the same room with a small eating area and a range of cupboards with a TV and a balcony.
There is a separate galley kitchen with fridge, 2 ring hob, dishwasher and microwave.
The apartment also has an en suite bathroom with shower, toilet and wc.

Haus Schnalps has a cosy austrian style breakfast room with wood burning Kachelofen that also serves as a venue to enjoy a relaxing evening enjoying a few drinks from the well stocked fridge.
A sun terrace for use by all guests, leads off the breakfast room.
A small room with Sofa's,TV, video, DVD and playstation (own games required) and a collection of english reading material also serves as an information point with tourist info about the region.
