Description of this group of co-located holiday homes
Welcome to our beautiful property, situated in Filzmoos, an enchanting village in the Austrian sport welt Amade region. Our organic log chalet is fitted to the highest specification and is always warm and welcoming in winter and cool and airy in summer.
Our family only discovered skiing in the winter of 06 and we were lucky enough to choose Filzmoos. We call it ‘The jewel of Austria‘ and we have been bewitched by its traditional charm, hospitality and breathtaking beauty ever since. We cannot imagine a safer or more family orientated slope for children to learn to ski. Après ski is excellent at the lively ‘Happy Filzmoos’ or enjoy a late night disco at ‘The Kalahari’.

WINTER
A pretty little village perfect for families set amidst magnificent scenery at the foot of the Bischofsmutze mountain and Dachstein glacier, Filzmoos attracts guests who are looking for a typical Austrian village with many facilities close at hand. During the winter Filzmoos becomes a winter wonderland with uncluttered pistes and little or no queuing at the chair lifts – a rare commodity on the slopes these days.
There is plenty of space to roam with something to satisfy everyone from beginners to the more challenging run of Papageno, which boasts a six-person gondola giving access to marvellous descents directly down the village. The village is the heart of the community with the nursery slope and the children’s ski school being at the very centre.
SUMMER
In summer Filzmoos becomes a paradise for walkers, mountain bikers and anyone who enjoys being in the clean mountain air. There is a large network of walking trails suitable for all abilities and ages with over 200km of footpaths with classified blue, red and black routes.
You can also enjoy mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, visiting the championship golf course in Schladmig or visiting the leisure centre with indoor & outdoor pool, health suite and two bowling lanes. At nearby Dachstein you might be interested in paragliding and rafting. There are also tennis courts and horse riding nearby.
Filzmoos area
The chalets are situated on a quiet hillside approx 15 min walk from the centre of the village. It is opposite a large wooded area to the rear is farmland. A car would be useful but the walk to the village is very pleasant and not difficult. A ski bus stops 100 meters from the chalets which collects and drops off at various points in the village. The bus runs every hour from 9am – 5pm, every day except Saturday.
There are 2 good pizza restaurants in the village and the Hanneshof do a great spag bol for 6.95 euros. The 'Hubertus Hotel' has 2 Michelin stars and a very good reputation, but you need to book early. The 'Jagdhof' is situated on the mini island in the middle of the village and does the best venison steak I have ever tasted. A fabulous coffee shop run by Gaby is also on this island and serves fantastic apple strudel. Happy Filzmoos is great for lunch or dinner and during winter is a hub of activity and the place to go for 'Apres' from 4-6pm.
The new indoor/outdoor pool/sauna centre is behind 'Happy Filzmoos' and well worth a visit. The supermarket and chemist are situated by the mini island but check times of opening as they are very different to what we are used to - very refreshing!
During summer you may see/hear a lovely ritual behind the chalets. Every morning approx 8am the farmer behind our properties leads his 5 cows along a path to a gate, which he lets his cattle through, and they disappear for the day into the woods or wherever their fancy takes them. From 4pm onwards you can hear a cow bell accompanied by mooing as they make their way home after a hard day of chewing the cud. They cross the road and wait outside the gate until the farmer or one of the family come and let them through to go home for their supper and bed!!!
During January, Filzmoos hosts the International Ballooning Festival which is an amazing sight - well worth a visit! Please visit the tourist board and speak to Heather (English speaking) and she will give you any information you need and advice on all activites taking place during your stay.

Guestbook for Frienhauser Ebner
"The Woodyatts have established a home from home in the middle of the Austrian Alps, warm, cosy, spacious, comfortable and every other superlative which one would expect from a top hotel. We were happily surprised by the set-up of the chalet, as for the location? Just take a look at the pictures, you get exactly everything described.
Activities can be as varied and active as you call for, we opted for strolling around the local mountain paths with our dogs. The village and the locals are all friendly and welcoming along with the tourist information office being extremely accommodating.
The ability to ski all day on the plethora of slopes is excellent and would suit all, from beginner to professional. The Woodyatt family are the most hospitable hosts you are likely to encounter, we have already booked again for this Christmas."
