Northern England region

The Yorkshire coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington have been attracting visitors for hundreds of years who come to enjoy the miles of clean sandy beaches, pretty fishing ports and to walk along magnificent cliff top paths. The picturesque fishing port of Whitby is noted for its narrow streets and cliff top abbey which dominates the skyline and is well known as the place where Bram Stoker was inspired to write his famous novel ‘Dracular'. Further south lies Scarborough which offers two horseshoe bays both with stretches of golden sands and plenty of amusements and activities; which are ideal for the perfect family holiday. All along the coast visitors will be able to find a contrast of family friendly resorts and quieter little fishing ports which, all in all, offers something for everyone.

Filey

Filey is full of different activities and attractions. Filey's museum offers an insight into the history and all about why it is such a popular fishing village. The local gardens are also a beautiful area to discover which is right next to the beach. Local shops offer a variety of items for the beach for those wanting to build sandcastles, play with footballs or badminton rackets or simply relaxing on the beach. Scarborough is a fantastic sea side town to visit offering a great beach area and lots of little shops to explore and plenty of places to eat. Arcades and amusements are also located within Scarborough which is a perfect way to spend a rainy day. Why not treat yourself to an evening out for tea to one of Scarborough's award winning restaurants with locally sourced ingredients. The Coastal town of Whitby is also located nearby and offers activities such as fishing, golfing and crabbing. Whilst enjoying the beach, why not take a coastal cruise as this is the best way to see the beautiful coastline. Whitby Museum and Whitby Abbey are also local attractions that should not be missed! After exploring everything that Whitby has to offer, there is nothing better than tasting some of the local fish and chips! The North York Moors is also a great place to visit as it offers plenty of different types of activities. There are many different types of walks to choose from that situate within this National Park. Guided walks are also available and dedicated routes for people walking with dogs. A variety of cycling routes are also found that range in difficulty to suit all abilities. There is a huge list of different outdoor activities that can be enjoyed on the North York Moors such as water sports, horse riding, motor sports and air sports – which are just to name a few! For those who prefer to take in sights and history in a slightly different fashion, there are also a huge variety of attractions to suit you. There are plenty of museums such as Captain Cook Memorial Museum and Farming Flashback where you can observe farming machinery. Other attractions include Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, Staintondale Shire horse Farm and Scarborough Sea life and Marine Sanctuary.
