Roobarb's Retreat” is a 3 bedroomed holiday cottage near Filey offering stylish and comfortable accommodation in a stunning location. Situated in a purpose built village called "The Bay", set in over one hundred acres of unspoilt meadows, it boasts, fishing lakes, a boathouse, family pub, cafe, a leisure centre with swimming pool, steam room, sauna and gym, putting green, bike hire and tennis court and has direct access to the beautiful beach. Roobarb's Retreat holiday cottage is ideal for families or couples who will find the relaxing atmosphere a real tonic. The cooking facilities are excellent but the John Paul Jones Pub and Italian Café (50m from the cottage) are very convenient and highly recommended for a night or meal out.
Beautifully designed and fitted to a high standard, the holiday cottage comprises of a master bedroom with en-suite shower room and flat screen freeview TV, 1 double and 1 twin room, family bathroom; bath with overhead shower, an open plan L shaped lounge with two leather sofas and two easy chairs, dining room with table and chairs for six and fully fitted kitchen including dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave, separate hallway leading to downstairs cloak/WC. French doors open onto a furnished patio, surrounded by a large shared garden and landscaped grounds. Travel Cot and High Chair are available for use free of charge.
Named after the owner's eldest dog, Roobarb's Retreat welcomes up to two well-behaved dogs that can remain downstairs in the living area. Dogs are allowed on the six mile stretch of sand all year but there are seasonal restrictions along the sea front in Filey itself. They must be kept on the lead in the village but can be let off the lead in the meadows when the tide is in and there is no beach access. The meadows are just behind the cottage and there is a delightful walk down to the beach past another lake teaming with wildlife. The John Paul Jones Pub allows dogs, which means you don't need to leave them behind when you go out.

Northern England region
North Yorkshire boasts two National Parks, The North York Moors and The Yorkshire Dales. Both areas are stunning and perfect for walkers, cyclists, climbers and for exploring by car or motorbike. The Moors are closer to the cottage but the Yorkshire Dales can be accessed for a day trip. Further South are the Yorkshire Wolds an area brought to life recently by local artist David Hockney with his amazing paintings of the trees and landscapes of this quiet and rolling countryside. The Wolds are less visited than the National Parks and villages in this area are really stunning and worth a look.
Roobarb's Retreat is closest to the Yorkshire Wolds, about ten minutes drive inland. If you drive North past Scarborough then you will arrive at the North York Moors National Park with many, many footpaths and bridleways. Inland, towards Pickering about an hour's drive away you will enter the Yorkshire Dales which are always worth a visit.

Further afield is Gothic Whitby which should be experienced at any time but especially during the famous Goth Weeks; you will feel underdressed in amoungst the Goths in their amazing outfits. York is an hour's drive away for a day out and afternoon tea at Betty's Tea Rooms.

"Warm, welcoming, happy house by the sea"
We have stayed at the Bay a few times over the years and always in Winter and have watched it grow. Whilst the building work may bother some, our children have always found it entertaining. This is the… More
Thank you so much for the kind review, it has really made my day! You left the cottage in an excellent state and will be welcome back anytime! I have been managing my cottage independently for almost a year now and it has been hard work but very rewarding to receive such positive comments from my guests. My family and I love visiting The Bay and it is great sharing the cottage with others who enjoy it just as much, and treat it with the same respect.
