Villa Lavanda
£760–£1520 / week
About the home
Villa Lavanda offers an extremely high level of comfort with high quality fittings and furnishings. It is a traditional Istrian stone house with exposed wooden beams and lots of original features, but has been recently renovated with natural materials wherever possible to give modern comforts such as under floor heating and air conditioning, spacious living areas and a well equipped and practical kitchen - as you would expect from one of Slovenia's best coastal holiday villas. The garden is beautiful - a well maintained and secluded space with lovely views and pool (plus pool house with shower and changing room) lovely lawn surrounding a 300 year old old olive tree.
The villa is located in the peaceful stone built hilltop village of Fijeroga, in the beautiful unspoilt countryside circa 15km inland from the Slovenian Adriatic. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves and with lovely views of the surroundings and with a wide range of organic products and delicious meals available upon request from the owners you hardly need leave the place, however if you do the owners will be able to recommend a number of excellent restaurants in the area and point you in the direction of the highlights of inland Slovenian Istria - the Dragonja valley, the historic murals at Hrastovlje, a huge selection of excellent wineries and a number of sleepy stone hilltop villages where life continues to day as it seems to have done for centuries. On the Adriatic coast just a short drive away is one of Slovenia's premier attractions & its most beautiful coastal town - Piran, the bustling family resort of Portotroz & the charming seaside town of Izola which both offer a wide range of things to do and beaches to enjoy the waters of the Adriatic.
Further afield, but still in easy day trip distance are the world famous caves at Postojna, golf & the historic Lippizaner stud at Lipica. Slovenia's charming capital Ljubljana is just 90 minutes drive and day trips into Trieste & Venice in Italy or Croatia's beautiful Istrian coast are easily possible.

The Primorska region

Slovenia’s Adriatic coast is just 46km long – but like the rest of the country punches well above its weight in the number and quality of attractions it offers. The main draw is Piran, a magnificent medieval Venetian town on a peninsula jutting into the Adriatic centred around the lovely Tartini Square and overlooked by an imposing and beautiful hilltop cathedral.
The town is a compact maze of charming medieval streets and alleys and offers a good range of places to eat as well rocky beaches on the edge of town. A few kilometres from Piran in one direction is Izola another charming Italianate seaside town with the tiny picturesque village of Strunjan between the two with its beautiful coastal views and famous cliffs.
A few kilometres in the other direction is Portorož, a cheerful town with all the trappings of a busy seaside resort. Further north the port of Koper is initially unappealing but actually conceals an attractive medieval old town that is well worth a visit. All along the coast you can find excellent Italian influenced cuisine and plenty of fresh seafood. Inland from the coast is wine growing country dotted with old Istrian hilltop villages, which often have views of the Alps and the Adriatic.
The Fijeroga area
