The Midi-Pyrenees region
The Aveyron region is a real must for all francophiles. It is a traditional, rural delight with endless rolling vistas and changing scenery from the dramatic foothills, to the endless plateau, to the spectacular Gorge and rivers. This is truly a snapshot of the real France, a France where time almost appears to standstill.
The region is steeped in history from the prehistoric tribes living in the caves of the limestone plateau to the 100 years war and the settlement of the Knights Templar in the region. The region also boasts more Les Plus Beaux Villages de France than any other, so culture is never very far away.
The region is proud of traditional regional products of impeccable quality which feature in its unique cuisine. Sample traditional Aveyron dishes including aligot, le Laguiole, la fouace, Aubrac beef, foie gras, tripous, confits, stuffed cabbage, Estofinado, thrush pâté with goose liver, lamb, feuilleté au roquefort, ewes' curds and the inevitable Roquefort accompanied by wines from Marcillac, Estaing or d'Entraygues.
In Aveyron, a meal is not a meal without a traditional patisserie: Fouace cake flavoured with orange-flower water, almond croquants, échaudés à l'anis, Gateau a la broche (a cone-shaped cake cooked for several hours on a stick by the fire). Followed by a liqueur or eau-de-vie brandy (walnut, quince or plum) to conclude the meal.
Trois George Sand is just 2 kilometres away from the quaint small town of Cransac with it's thermal spa and mineral spring. It borders on the Forest of Vaysse with its Acacia trees and pretty walks.
The ancient towns of Figeac, Rodez, and Villefranche de Rourgue are all less than a thirty minutes away. In less than a half hour's drive you will also find the Beaux Villages of Belcastel, Conques, Sainte-Eulalie d'Olt, Estaing and St Come d'Olt. The river Lot with its fishing opportunities is just 5 minutes away.
For the more adventurous there is also canoeing and kayaking on the rivers Lot and Aveyron, mountain biking, rafting, hang gliding and rock climbing. The local equestrian centre is just 1 km away. Within half an hours drive you can also visit adventure parks and go-carting.
Alternatively you can relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding area whilst sitting on the deck around our beautiful swimming pool.

"Thoroughly enjoyed by all, as advertised, and a home from home!Very highly recommended!!"
I don't normally write reveiews, but I read the trip advisor comment from someone who said they had been in June and decided these people are writing about a different property, or more likely have a different/hidden agenda. I had to laugh when they commented about people speaking French! What do you expect in France!
I visited this house on the recommendation of one of my colleagues and I wasn't disappointed.House was spacious for my ever growing family, we had a wonderful time, house was as advertised, clean, tidy, lots space, facilities and extras. We enjoyed picking the fruit from the trees and vegetable plot. The English TV channels were an added bonus. I loved the middle lounge where you could sit in tranquil peace. The terrace and gardens were fun and the lads loved using the table tennis table and other games in the gardens. We had many happy hours around the pool. Welcome pack was nice. This was just what we needed from our hectic life styles, calm and tranquil. We visited some of the villages recommended by the owners e.g. Belcastel, Conques, Marcillac Market on a Sunday, Rodez etc. A great place to visit and relax!
Thank you. We are thrilled that you had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed visiting the recommended sights. We find the Aveyron to be a very relaxing department and very French which we are pleased to share with our many satisfied guests. Thank you also for your comments on negative reviews which we would concur with. As they say in France "c'est la vie!"

"Fantastic holiday, in a lovely residence, in a stunning location."
Had a great holiday. Property - super. Well maintained with all facilities needed. Table tennis, a great pool, Internet access etc all there. Welcome pack and complimentary meal were much appreciated and enjoyed. The house is very well equipped with everything needed. Excellent cleanliness throughout- bathrooms, kitchen etc. The bedrooms are bright, clean and attractive. The grounds are fantastic. We loved looking out over the grounds whilst eating our meals. We had a wonderful time and the house and grounds are fantastic and well worth a visit. The pool was lovely and clean and a great way to keep cool. We had lots of fun in it. Sun loungers, sun parasols at the sides of the pool were great. I would most certainly recommend this place to friends and family to visit and to have a fantastic holiday.
Thank you for your lovely comments about our house in the Aveyron, Ann. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

"Great time, great holiday."
On arrival had a lovely hamper left by the owners. Made a long drive worthwhile. The house was clean and cosy, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the sunset from the pool with a glass of vino! The rooms … More

"100% Not As Advertised!!! Would not return or reccomend."
Booked as a family in what we thought was a stunning location, however could not have been in a worse place. Decazville was like something out of a horror film. There was weird locals who looked like … More
Thanks for your feedback, and we are sorry that you didn't find our property and the area up to your expectations, we would have been happy to address any concerns you had at the time - this is the first we have heard of any issues with the plumbing! We did advise you before you travelled that the Aveyron is not a nightlife hotspot and tried to help you make the most of your holiday by telephone, and produced a personalised written guide of our recommendations of places to visit. We appreciate that a relaxing holiday to watch the world go by, as opposed to bar hopping, was perhaps not the right holiday for you.
We were surprised to find this review especially given the feedback we've had from our other guests - this is the first negative feedback we've had, with all our other families enjoying their stay describing the “area and view fantastic” [Bianca K], “a pleasure to stay” [Bell family], a “home from home” [Beavan family] and “will definitely recommend” [Hill family].
We do advertise this property as part of the real France, and in rural France, I'm afraid that includes the French language and French council bin collection routine (a communal bin 70 yards from the property) come along with the beautiful views and the nearby historic landmarks! Many of our guests enjoy the local produce of the local supermarkets (of which there at least half a dozen within 5 miles of the property), as opposed to the more sterile environments of UK supermarkets, as well as the many traditional French restaurants nearby. Decazeville is just one of many nearby towns, and we recommend visiting the many local “beaux villages” to make the most of your experience.
As the property is not constantly rented, we do have to protect our outdoors furniture to keep them in a good condition for all our guests, and in order to keep our rates competitive, we do ask that guests help out with a low level of daily pool cleaning, similar to many other properties in the area. I apologise if you found the property dirty on arrival, we have fed that back to our local cleaning contractor, who cleaned the property the day before your arrival. We are confused by your description of the sheets though, as these are the same sheets we use ourselves at the property and can not find any that meet your description.
We do not require guests to do laundry of the sheets before they go, we are sorry if you were under the wrong impression in that regard - our “rules and regulations” are based on the standard contract recommended by HolidayLettings.co.uk.
We do not recognise the property and facilities you have described, and stand by the quality of 3 George Sand (which is not something we just “rent out”, but we try to give the best experience to all of our guests), and the competitive rates we charge to allow people to experience the real France - considering that you have already received a 10% discount on the final price of the property, we do not think any further reduction is warranted.

"A real taste of French rural life but with all the mod-cons"
A renovated farmhouse done with taste to retain character but with modern facilities. Great views from all rooms but especially bedrooms. Lovely grounds with fruit trees (laden with fruit) leading down to forest (beginning of National Park). Lovely large swimming pool with numerous sun loungers (12 I think) round it. After a week on a boat on a canal we found the farmhouse very relaxing and spacious. You are very much in the French countryside with some fascinating villages nearby. We would particularly recommend Conques,Belcastle and markets at Villefranche and Rodez. On arrival there was a welcoming hamper and full instructions for appliances, pool, etc.Would have been happy to have stayed longer and will be recommending to friends in New Zealand for their European Holidays.
Thank you for the lovely comments, and we're glad you enjoyed your stay! Conques and Belcastel are our favourite local spots too

"So relaxing in a beautiful setting"
Such a beautiful location and a wonderfully converted farmhouse. It was the perfect getaway from the busy working life... relaxing by the pool with a book, and getting away to see some of the amazing real France!
Thank you for your comments, and we're glad you enjoyed the stay, I hope it was a good book!

"Peace and relaxation with all the home comforts"
The house and gardens and facilities were all we asked for and more! Plenty of space, loved the pool and terrace. The view is breathtaking. Plenty of activities to do around the house, games etc. Men loved the table tennis and the boule! Lots to do in the surrounding area.
I would highly recommend this property and would stay again.
Thank you Jemmima for your kind words about our property in the Midi Pyrenees. We look forward to welcoming you back next June 2012, thanks for your repeat booking.
