The Central Scotland/Edinburgh region

The East Neuk of Fife is well known for it's picturesque fishing villages, sandy beaches and numerous golf courses. Indeed Fife is a beautiful county of rich arable farmland and rolling hills. There is much to see and do in this area, Falkland Palace is an historic treasure, St Andrews a delight, There are boat trips to the May Island a 'must see' for the puffins. Watersports, walking, wildlife, whatever your interest there is plenty to fill your holiday.
.

Fife / St Monans area

St.Monans is one of the pretty East Neuk fishing villages, the heart of which is a conservation area; many houses have been restored by the National Trust for Scotland. Boat building has always been important and still continues here, you may see work going on at the harbourside. There are a few shops and two restaurants/pubs. One or two fish sheds remain where you can buy fresh fish.. The Fife coastal path passes along the front of St Monans. At the western point of St Monans lies the Auld Kirk, built on the rocks by the sea. From here there is a lovely walk along the cliff path to the ruins of Newark Castle and miles of golden sands.

There is plenty to do and see in the area, whatever your taste, sporting, leisurely or cultural.

How to get there

St Monans is around an hours drive from Edinburgh, on the A91, From Dundee take the A92.
Both cities have airports which are destinations for budget airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair.
St Andrews is around 20 minutes drive, the town doesn't have a train station but there is a station at Leuchars.
