Home description
This delightful property was formally a weaver’s house and has been sensitively renovated and decorated to reflect the period of the house. The accommodation is spread over three floors and has something of an upside down quirkiness to it. On the ground floor are two bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room. The single room has access to the mature garden and a further galleried single bedroom is on the second floor. There is a pleasant, well-equipped kitchen, a sitting room with flame-effect gas fire, and dining area. The mature garden is a real treat and has a patio area with furniture. This is an unusual and beautiful property that makes a fabulous base to enjoy all this lovely area has to offer.

The Central Scotland/Edinburgh region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. The beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is littered with fortresses and strongholds, testimony to its dramatic history. Moving north, the Highlands are to Scotland what the Pyrenees are to France, with equally breathtaking scenery and fantastic opportunities for walking and mountaineering. Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park are particularly famous for skiing, whilst Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain at 1343m, is a firm favourite for those seeking a challenge. For the less energetic, the Whisky Trail provides a unique way of exploring many of Scotland’s attractions and for quieter moments, there’s always Loch Ness and a chance to spot the elusive monster! Scotland also has some of Britain’s best and cleanest beaches. Cromarty is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins and Nairn, whilst claiming to be one of the sunniest and driest places in the country, has glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam. Several islands lie off the Scottish coast, each with their own character and heritage, however the Isle of Skye is probably the best known and most visited. As the largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye’s turbulent geological past has bequeathed it a stunning coastline. Experienced walkers are drawn to the Black Cuillin Mountains, whilst those less experienced have an array of lower level coastal walks from which to choose or alternatively, visitors can take some time to visit Skye’s capital, the charming harbour town of Portree.
Fife / Falkland area
Falkland is a Royal Burgh and received its Charter in 1458. It is perhaps the most royal of all Fife’s royal burghs as its palace was the favourite home of the Stuarts. The centre of the village is dominated by the imposing gatehouse and the Bruce Fountain, making the village unique amongst Scottish locations. Falkland lies tucked away at the foot of the Lomand hills and has a variety of restaurants, cafés, shops and public houses. There is an attractive nine-hole golf course in the Burgh and of course the nearby East Neuk of Fife is home to the famous St Andrews golf course, as well as charming coastal fishing villages. Cupar is only 10 miles away on the edge of the famous ‘Howe of Fife.’

Guestbook for 2054
100% is not something I give easily but Steps House was a delight to spend time in. It has the character on the outside and all the comfort on the inside. Bottle of wine and Scottish shortbread - what a treat! Lots to see in the surrounding area. Look forward to returning next year. Mrs Hafford, Liverpool, Merseyside November 2008
The location and character were superb. The cottage has been very tastefully upgraded to a very high standard. Mr & Mrs Common, , Northumberland November 2008
The cottage was warm, cosy and very well-equipped. Its location was excellent, being very close to all the village amenities and very centrally located in Fife for all the local attractions. Another gem of a cottage from the Sykes brochure. Mr Airey, Doncaster, South Yorkshire September 2008
The location, homeliness and the tasteful refurbishment has made Steps House a real home from home. Mr Chilman, Pershore, Worcestershire August 2008
