3, Lara Apartments (apartment)
Home descriptionThis pretty first floor apartment in a block of six is ideal for those seeking peace at home, and plenty to do when they go out. The apartment is spacious and well-designed, with neutral furnishings. It is in a friendly mixed neighbourhood of Turks and Britons, with a mountain rising sheer at one end of its little road, and a helpful corner shop for milk, bread, etc. at the other end. A five minutes walk away is the main shopping street of Ataturk Caddesi where a large well stocked supermarket and minibuses to the harbor and other resort suburbs of Fethiye (leaving every few minutes) can be found. Alternatively, walking to the harbor takes about 20 minutes at a gentle pace.

The many civiliations (Lycian, Hellenistic, Byzantine, Ottoman) have all left their mark, and in some places there are spectacular remains. For example, Lycian rock tombs at Fethiye, the castle and Mausoleum at Halicarnassos (now Bodrun), one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, an amphitheatre at Uspendos, still used to stage operas, as is the theatre at Ephesus, a remarkable Hellenistic ruined city. There are also lots of natural wonders. Apart from the spectaculary beautiful coastal scenery, there are such strange places as Pamukkale (which means cotton) where the minerals have made a strange white wonderland. The reed beds of Dalyan host many beautiful water birds. The coast is hot in summer, warm in spring and autumn, and winter is a mix of mild days (anything up to 65F), together with not-so-mild rainy ones, and chilly nights. Fethiye / Tasyaka areaFethiye is a very scenic resort on the shores of a turquoise lagoon, ringed by mountains and dotted with tiny islands. It has a harbour and a marina, for sailing, sea excursions, and watersports. In the area by the harbour there is a bazaar offering the usualTurkish specialities of leather clothing, gold and silver jewellery, carpets, herbs and spices and of course, Turkish delight. There are excellent restaurants (try the Duck Pond!) both in the bazaar and in the fish market, and several nightclubs. For more nightlife, take a minibus or taxis to Hisaronu or Calis Beach. In fact there are restaurants and bars of all kinds everywhere in Fethiye. The local wine is very good but no cheaper than modest wines at home. The local beer is also quite good. How to get thereFly from all regional and London airports except Heathrow, to Dalaman. Main carriers are Thomas Cook, Easyjet and First Choice.
