Home description
The cottage is one of three belonging to Sakli Vadi and is situated just below The Byre and Granary. The ruin was bought in 1995 and took nine months to renovate.
Because the lower part of the house was hewn out of the rock and faces due west, it was decided to build the sitting room upstairs. The lounge is accessed in two ways from the walled garden. You can climb the outside steps, past the samll plunge pool to the wooden balcony, faced with carved timbers in the local style. From the balcony you enter the sitting room through French doors. The kitchen and bathroom lead off the lounge.
The other way up to the sitting room is through the ground floor, double bedroom. As with the balcony, you enter the bedroom from the garden through French doors at ground level. You then climb the traditional stone staircase up into the sitting room.
The garden is, like the other cottages, surrounded by a high wall to be totally secluded. Next to the pergola, built into one corner of the garden wall, is a traditional Turkish fireplace, with bench seats attached. As with the Granary garden, a barbecue unit is built into the fireplace. There is a small private plunge pool and patio area built into the eastern corner of the garden.
The balcony faces west and is perfect for sitting and chatting, watching the wonderful sunsets over the hills looking towards the sea at Gemiler Bay three kilometres away. The Forge has become a favourite holiday cottage for honeymooners over the years.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The region is steeped in ancient history. The city of Xanthos was in ancient times capital of Lycia. As well as ancient historical sites, there are lots of places of interest to visit.
Our nearest large town is Fehtiye. It has a central fish and vegetable market, where you can pick your fish and have it cooked straight away by one of the many restaurants that surround the market. On Tuesday's the travelling market comes to Fethiye and sets up on both sides of the river, where you can buy anything from cabbages to carpets ! It is well worth a visit and don't forget to haggle on the prices !
There are other towns further afield such as Dalyan, Kas and Kalkan which are worth the drive. If you go to our web site and click the "Around Sakli Vadi" link, there is detailed information of places to visit in the area. Please visit our web site for lots more information.
Fethiye area
There are many ancient sites such as Xanthos, Kadyanda, Tlos, Letoon and many others. The areas beaches, with one exception are pebbles. The beaches are, in the main, kept spotlessly clean and tidy.
Towering above the Kaya Valley is the Baba Dag mountian. This is the site from which the hang gliders launch. You can see them all year round and the annual international festival is held in Oludeniz. If you want a thrilling flight have a go ! In the Kaya Village is the Ghost Town. This is worth a visit. The Ghost Town was featured in Louis de Berniers book "Birds Without Wings".
How to get there
Our nearest airport is Dalaman. Since it's recent facilities expansion, many charter airlines now fly in all year round from many UK regional airports, as well as London Gatwick.
Presently the airlines with the most flights are EasyJet, Maersk Air, Onur Air, Atlas Jet, Thomas Cook, Hapag Lloyd and Monarch Air. Turkish Airlines also has scheduled flights from Istanbul.
We can arrange airport transfers and car hire with local companies that we can thoroughly recommend.

Further details indoors: The Forge has a beautifully secluded patio garden. Since 1995 the flower beds and shrubs have become well established and additional colur is given by the many flowers in pots dotted around the terrace.
Although we have ticked that we have a CD player, it is actually a iPod/MP3 system, which most of our customers now have.
Further details outdoors: In our attempts to keep the cottages as traditional as possible, we have built in The Forge and the Granary gardens turkish fireplaces. The fireplaces have concrete bench seats attached, covered in scatter cushions. In the winter months the fireplaces burn logs for warmth but for the long summer months we put BBQ's in them for our guests to use, if they feel like cooking.

All Sakli Vadi cottages allow smoking both inside and in the gardens.
The stereo system and our two mountain bikes (we charge a nominal Gbp. 5.00 per bike per day) are stored at another location and are available on request. The stereo system is suitable for iPods and MP3 players only and not CDs.
