Home description
The Byre was the first of the three Sakli Vadi cottages and is the largest of the three. The ruin was bought in 1993 and took a little over a year to restore. The restoration was done after much research into what the original building looked like, both inside and out. The cottage was awarded a plaque from the Turkish Ministry Of Tourism & Culture for “Sympathetic Restoration Of Turkish Heritage” of which the owners Sandy & Jon Carter are justifiably proud.
The cottage is situated at the highest point at the western end of the Kaya valley, with stunning views in all directions. The interior of the cottage consists of a hallway cut into the rock leading onto the kitchen on one side and the master double bedroom, with en suite bathroom on the other. Leading off the fully fitted kitchen is a very large lounge with a traditional log burning stove, for use in the winter months. The lounge has a balcony area which has two single beds, suitable for teenagers.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The region is steeped in ancient history. The city of Xanthos was in ancient times capital of Lycia. As well as ancient historical sites, there are lots of places of interest to visit.
Our nearest large town is Fehtiye. It has a central fish and vegetable market, where you can pick your fish and have it cooked straight away by one of the many restaurants that surround the market. On Tuesday's the travelling market comes to Fethiye and sets up on both sides of the river, where you can buy anything from cabbages to carpets ! It is well worth a visit and don't forget to haggle on the prices !
There are other towns further afield such as Dalyan, Kas and Kalkan which are worth the drive. If you go to our web site and click the "Around Sakli Vadi" link, there is detailed information of places to visit in the area.
Fethiye area
There are many ancient sites such as Xanthos, Kadyanda, Tlos, Letoon and many others. The areas beaches, with one exception are pebbles. They are in the main kept spotlessly clean and tidy.
Towering above the Kaya Valley is the Baba Dag mountian. This is the site from which the hang gliders launch. You can see them all year round and the annual international festival is held in Oludeniz. If you want a thrilling flight have a go ! In the Kaya Village is the Ghost Town. This is worth a visit. The Ghost Town was featured in Louis de Berniers book "Birds Without Wings".
How to get there
Our nearest airport is Dalaman. Since it's recent facilities expansion, many charter airlines now fly in all year round from many UK regional airports, as well as London Gatwick.
Presently the airlines with the most flights are EasyJet, Maersk Air, Onur Air, Atlas Jet, Thomas Cook, Hapag Lloyd and Monarch Air. Turkish Airlines also has scheduled flights from Istanbul.
We can arrange airport transfers and car hire with local companies that we can thoroughly recommend.

Further details
Sakli Vadi is a small family owned and run, fully independent tourism company. We don't have any fixed changeover days and we work around the flights and dates which best suit you our clients. We can arrange car hire (delivered to and collected from the cottages) and airport transfers, if required.
Smoking is allowed in all the Sakli Vadi Cottages and in their gardens.
We ask our clients to pay 50% up front to confirm their bookings and the balance one month prior to arrival please. We accept UK cheques, ibanking transfers and we have a PayPal account if customers wish to use credit cards to pay. We have to unfortunately add 5% if clients wish to use PayPal, because of the commissions they charge us.
Conditions
PLEASE NOTE : We mention above that The Byre sleeps two persons. The weekly rental rates for The Byre are based on two persons sharing (as with our other two cottages). However, the Byre has two single beds located on a balcony above the salon. As the cottage has only one bathroom we feel these beds would only be suitable for teeenage family members. During October through to the end of June, we make a surcharge of Gbp. 35.00 per bed/person/night and in the high season months of July, August and September, Gbp. 50.00 per bed/person/week.
