Calis Beach and the Gulf of Fethiye
Calis Beach: The resort is reasonably quiet and small, ideal for walking, the promenade and beach front has recently been revamped . Umbrellas and loungers available to hire at the beach. The water taxi is great to take for a scenic journey to Fethiye. Calis beach is famous for its spectacular sunsets and a refreshing afternoon breeze which is most welcome in the height of summer. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the vicinity, for the kids there is a small water park (younger kids) and the beach. There are plenty of places to organize day excursions to various attractions in the surrounding area. Market day is on Sunday, this is a smaller version of the one in Fethiye.
The Gulf of Fethiye is thought by many sailors to be second only to the Indian Ocean in terms of the beautiful seascapes it offers. This is the nearest town to Calis and is only a 10 minute dolmus (mini bus) ride or a 30 minute water taxi ride away. It hosts a weekly Tuesday market which is well worth a visit, as you might expect you can usually find a bargain or two from home grown fruit and veg to rip off “designer gear” . In the picturesque harbour you can sit and watch the goings on or arrange a boat trip, this is also a pleasant place to spend the evening in one of the many restaurants with a harbour view. There are ancient Lycian tombs to be explored in the hillside behind and you can come across many Roman and Lycian sites scattered around the town.
Explore the bay and beautiful Blue Lagoon where the calm, crystal clear water is ideal for swimming and other water sports. The Blue Lagoon is one of the best places in the world to do absolutely nothing but soak up the sun amid stunning natural surroundings. Paragliding is very popular here, the scenery being spectacular from an elevated position.
With a large natural harbour Gocek has grown up to cater to the needs of yachtsmen. One of the pleasures of a visit here is a stroll around the Marina to admire the array of boats of all shapes and sizes moored here. The waterfront is lined with bars and restaurants. Inland life revolves around the pretty market square which is lined with little shops selling antiques and crafts as well as the more usual carpets.
