The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Here is our own google map which has much more detail than one above
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=116735981735954498231.0004665a16f8d85cc70e4The Turquoise Coast takes its name from the colour of the sea, particularly at sunset. Whilst lazing by the pool or beach is always an option, In and around Fethiye/Oludeniz you can enjoy Paragliding Microlites, hot air ballooning, Cycling, Hiking/walking, white-water rafting, and even skiing is being developed. Visit the nearby world renowned beauty spot of Olu Deniz with its warm sandy beaches and the clear blue waters of its famous lagoon. Saklikent where a rushing torrent cuts an impressive gorge through the mountains. Calis beach front is popular in the evenings with its promenade of restaurants and bars. Goceks idyllic marina. Hisaronu with its lively night-life, clubs, restaurants and bars. The Greek 'ghost town' of Kaya Koy. Visit Kalkan steeped in ancient history, one of many archeological sites. Slightly further away Patara beach with its ancient Roman/Lycian ruins and a 20km unspoilt beach.
All these are within easy reach of Fethiye, where the warmth of the local people and exceptional Turkish hospitality await. The region enjoys 30-40 degree summers and a short warm winter. The water termperatures are comfortable for 9 months of the year.
Fetihye is a lovely harbour town with boat trips leaving daily. Dating back to the 4th century BC, Fethiye (telmessos) is overlooked by ancient Lycian rock tombs (works of art still intact) and the ruins of the Crusader fortress. Fethiye also has an amphitheatre to explore. The views over the bay are stunning, as a ring of 12 islands makes a perfect backdrop for the beautiful sunsets, as well as being the destination for many boat trips. Surrounded on all sides by the Taurus Mountains, provides a magnificent panoramic backdrop to your holiday, including the majestic Mount Babadag which overlooks Oludeniz, from where the paragliders effortlessy descend to the beach below. On Tuesdays, Fetihye market sells everything from designer jeans, Tshirts, leather, jewellery, linen, and craft items to shoes, watches and handbags. Cheap is not the word, so make sure you take advantage. There is also a market in Calis on a Sunday, full of stall to stall quality designer gear (Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci (honest) etc..). Of course you can have a Turkish bath and relaxing sauna, spruce up at one of the Turkish barbers. Fethiye is like a big bazaar, of stalls and restaurants, fish market, internet cafes, Turkish style coffee houses, Individual gallery style bars where you can watch the world go by. A mixture of old charm blending with the more modern, department stores, boutiques, gold and silver jewelers, leather goods, carpets, traditional crafts to a high standard (good value, extremely cheap) etc. unbeatable shopping. Take an evening stroll on the palmed waterfront promenade (which soon will be extended all the way to Calis beach). Then choose from a wide variety of restaurants from traditional Turkish through to continental cuisine. Take a walk round the fish market where locally caught produce can be picked, cooked and brought to your table. The Catamaran to Rhodes takes just 80 minutes, if you fancy a Greek day out. Try the water taxi from Fethiye to Calis (past your villa), it cost around £2.50pp and is a very tranquil boatride. The return dolmus to your villa will be approx 50p.
The Fethiye area
Close to Fethiye is the famous resort of Oludeniz with its idyllic lagoon, probably one of the worlds most photographed beauty spots, and has been described as 'The Eden bestowed by God to the world', swimming in its waters is a serene experience with a kaleidoscope of light and deep blues. Oludeniz also boasts one of Turkeys finest beaches (3km), with plenty of off beach shopping and restaurants. From here you can take a paragliding trip (strapped to a professional) from the beach up the mountains and fly back to the same beach. This is not as daunting as it may sound and affords one of the best views you are likely to see in your life. (see pics of amazing view) Finish a perfect day with a sunset Mojito in the Buzz Bar (best outside of Cuba). Oludeniz hosts the 'INTERNATIONAL AIR GAMES in September/October.
Calis beach is Fethiye’s resort. It has a long beach that benefits from refreshing breezes, even in the hottest months. The beach is on a beautiful stretch of coastline, famous for its glorious sunsets, and stretches for 4 km with hotels, bars and restaurants on the beach, ample space for everyone to relax and eat/drink and soak in the rays. Calis is a lively town with a relaxed atmosphere. It is unspoilt by tourism, yet has everything you need.. Entertain the children with a visit to the Aqua Park, its safe and family friendly. On an evening perhaps one of the bars will have live entertainment from Western cover band (nothing too heavy) to traditional Turkish complete with ‘hubble bubble’ (communal bong style smoking) if you feel adventurous. Try the covered village for some superb live music (short 2 min taxi ride from calis). Regardless the long row of beach front bars and restaurants have menus for all tastes and have exceptional levels of service, for a relaxed meal.
Gocek is a beautiful marina and sailing resort, a perfect day out. It has a friendly atmosphere with various classy boutiques and restaurans along the water front. (try the fresh local fish).
Hisaronu is a lively and colourful resort style nightspot packed with restaurants, bars, nightclubs and shops, only 5 minutes on a dolmus from Fethiye. With its lively night-life, clubs, restaurants and bars.
Nearby, The Greek 'ghost town' of Kaya Koy awaits. A village of deserted houses sits eerily in the pine forests..In the valley there are various restaurants and wine houses (steaks are a speciality). Horse riding is popular here.
Saklikent (the hidden city)is an amazing white water gorge, within an hour from Fethiye. The shady chasms make it perfect for a day out of the sun, and hosts some extreme water sports i.e rafting, canoeing.
Other tours include Ephesus. Probably the most impressive archaeological site in the world or a relaxing boat trip to the Dalyan Delta, visit turtle beach and the mudbaths. Marvel at the ancient rock tombs carved into the cliff side.

The villa is spacious, clean and possesses all the mod cons including dish washer and washing machine - great for families wishing to eat in from time to time. Four adults stayed in May and there was always plenty of space, in fact an extra bedroom and bathroom. With 3 double rooms and 3 bathrooms there is more than adequate space, open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. However, with the beautiful weather there is a choice of two patio areas to be wined and dined. The patio area is private for that all important sun bathing. If you fancy a cool down there is a super pool area - not large but more than adequate. The pool was inviting, clean and a perfect place to relax. The villa is perfectly located to walk to the buzzing town of Fethiye and not much further to Chalis. If you don't fancy a walk, there is a dolmuch which you can jump on every few minutes at the top of the road near the supermarket. Fethiye has lots of restaurants, buzzing market and lots of shops selling those best buy leather goods and trinkets. For the more adventurous there is lots to do from paragliding at Olu Deniz (wonderful beach), jeep safari, turkish bath (highly recommended) as well as sights and ruins for those wanting to seek some culture. There is a wide choice of restaurants which will appeal to all tastes. All in all a wonderful villa with all the home from home comforts and lots to do. |

Transport from Dalaman was waiting for us on arrival from Gatwick. Journey to Fethiye approx 40 minutes. Villa was large, bright and clean. Very well equipped. Bedrooms were a good size with ample wardrobe space and a balcony or roof terrace for each room - plus the ensuite. Local restaurants very good and buses very frequent into Fethiye or Calis Beach. Huge supermarket just up the road. Everyone very helpful and friendly. New promenade into Fethiye which is currently being extended towards Calis Beach. Calis Beach not too touristy and the bars and restaurants are good value. Sorry I was only staying a week but will definitely visit the same area in the future. |
Guestbook for Fethiye Bay Villa
Just a quick note to say thanks. Firstly, the accommodation was exactly as advertised and we found touches very good, plus plenty of space for everyone – including the kids. Secondly, thanks for taking the time with the hints and tips – although we didn’t manage to do all ;-) We had ample opportunity to explore and do things. We found that there was much more to do than we really had time for (paragliding next time round) A beautiful villa.
Fethiye Bay Villas is so homely and welcoming, it was tempting just to stay on the balcony all day looking over the sea (with a Gin and Tonic).
The owners went out of their way to make sure we had a superb holiday, with ideas for days out etc. and plenty of information at the villa. Very professional.
Excellent Villa, 5 star, exactly as we imagined from your website and more. We could have just sat on the balcony and looked at the view all holiday. We had many beautiful walks along seafront to Fethiye and Calis. We will be recommending it to all our friends. Take care.
