The Fes region

Fez is the third largest city in Morocco and is an area that is steeped in ancient history since it was founded in 810 Moulay Idriss II. The region oozes a vibrant and colourful culture that you can emerse yourself into. The well preseved ancient Islamic city is home to one of the oldest universities in the world. During Yahya ibn Muhammad's rule the Kairouyine mosque, one of the oldest and largest in Africa, was built.

Fes City / Centre Ville Nouvelle area

Location: "Centre Ville Nouvelle". Very close to Shopping and Restaurants. Adjacent to "Le Marche Central." A 10 minute walk to the American Language Centre & ALIF. A 5 minute walk to Boulevard Hassan II or Boulevard Mohammed V. A 15 minute walk to the Royal Palace and "Mellah" (Old Jewish Quarter)- 3 minutes by Taxi. A 20 minute walk to "Batha" - the entrance to the old Medina - 5 minutes by Taxi.A 3 min walk to the frech consulat.A 5 min walk to the railway station.

How to get there

By Air

Royal Air Maroc offers daily flights from Casablanca and Paris-Orly to Fes-Saiss airport.
Jet4You flies from Paris-Orly and Marrakech to Fez.
RyanAir offers flights from Barcelona, Frankfurt and London Luton to Fez, though not on a daily basis.
GB Airways flies from Heathrow and Gatwick.

By Train

There is regular train service along the line that runs from Marrakesh-Casablanca-Rabat-Fez and return. From Marrakech, the trip is about 7 hours and costs approximately 200 dirhams second-class or 300 dirhams for first class. The trip from Casablanca takes about 4 hours and costs 100-150 dirhams. From Rabat it takes about three and a half hours and costs 75-105 dirhams.

By Car

Fez is about 4 hours' drive by car from Casablanca. The stretch of toll highway from Rabat to Fez is in superb condition.

Traveling by grand taxi (inter-city taxi), though more expensive than trains, is viable for tourists- a ride from Fez to Casablanca costs approximately 1200 dirhams (120 euros), which is not bad if you are sharing the cost among 3 or 4 passengers. Note that grand taxi fares are regulated and it is worth checking the official rates with the tourist board, as some drivers or hotels will quote inflated prices.

Within Fez, ride in the petits taxis (local taxis) rarely cost more that 15-20 dirhams. However, the medina of Fes el-Bali is only accessible from a few points by car. Bab Boujeloud and nearby Place Batha are popular dropoff points, as is Place R'cif; for parking there is spaces at Ain Zleten on the northeast edge of the medina.

By Bus

The old bus terminal ("gare routiere") is just outside the old city on the north side, near the Ain Zleten entrance to the medina. Grands taxis (inter-city taxis) can also be obtained here. The CTM terminal ("gare CTM") is in the Atlas neighborhood of the ville nouvelle, 7 km from the medina, but has taxi stands nearby. While the gare routière covers more routes more.

There is a supermarket nearby and many restaurants, shops, banks and the main fruit and vegetable market is also neaby. The apartment is in the centre of Fes, the railway station is 5 min walk away.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be submitted in writing by email. Reservations cancelled at least 10 days prior to scheduled arrival are fully refundable. Reservations cancelled less than 10 days prior to arrival are non-refundable.

Deposits: Prior to 10 days of arrival a deposit of 50% is required to make a reservation. The remaining 50% must be paid in full no later than 10 days prior to arrival. Reservations made with less than 10 days prior to arrival must be accompanied by full payment.

Other Fees: Airport Transfers to/from Fez International Airport available for 30 Euro one-way.

Other Policies: Only registered guests may stay in the apartment. The apartment is located in a residential building and respect for neighbors and Moroccan culture is paramount. The owner reserves the right to evict any quest who creates a disturbance or otherwise exhibits rude or inappropriate behavior. Smoking is permitted on the balconies only. Guests agree to assume all financial liability for any damage to the apartment or its contents beyond normal wear and tear that occurs during the leased period.
