The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The Algarve, Portugal, is a famous holiday destination popular with those seeking bucket loads of sunshine and award winning golden sandy beaches, families, sports enthusiasts, nature lovers, even celebrities! If you have already been to the Algarve, then you know how much this small southern region of Portugal has to offer, but for those of you who haven't enjoyed an Algarve holiday.
Why choose the Algarve, Portugal?
So what makes the Algarve such a great place?
For the hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers from around the world that fly into Faro Airport or drive or sail from other parts of Europe each year, it's the promise of sun-drenched days at the beach, sharing in a lovely relaxed and welcoming family-orientated culture and endless options for dining out and things to do, for all ages.
Algarve Holidays have long been thought of as great family holidays and beach holidays and the region has deservedly earned a reputation for golf holidays too. However the Algarve should also be known for it's truly unique contrast between the golden coastline and the beautiful rural countryside, it's many historic attractions and thousands of species of flora and fauna, making it the perfect holiday destination for interests such as photography, painting, nature watching, walking and other outdoor pursuits.
The Algarve, Portugal, is only a 3 hour flight (or less) from the United Kingdom, Ireland and many other parts of Europe and flights arrive to the region's sole international airport, Faro Airport (in central Algarve). Faro flights arrive daily throughout the year, with several arrivals and departures each day from airlines during the busiest summer months of July to September.
The beautiful sandy beaches are, of course, one of the major attractions for the Algarve (and understandably too, because they are some of the best in the world, with Blue Flag awards to prove it!) but as our Algarve tourist information shows, this sunny southern region of Portugal offers so much more as well!
The fantastic Algarve Weather that delivers dry sunny days for most of the year, makes enjoying outdoor life a way of life. The Algarve is perfect for walking, sightseeing and cycling and for all the sports you can imagine – surfing, golf, tennis, horse riding, kayaking and even extreme sports such as kitesurfing, rock climbing and wakeboarding.
Families can enjoy water parks, theme parks and zoos, boat trips along the breath-taking coastline (with dinghy rides into the caves and 'grottos' and the opportunity to see dolphins too), crazy golf, karting and many other things to do in the Algarve!

The Ferragudo area
Algarve, a region to remember
One2Seven is located in the authentic fishing village of Ferragudo.
Ferragudo is a beautiful village and has actually been tipped to be one of the Algarve’s new hot spots!
It really is a very picturesque scene when you arrive in Ferragudo to see the whitewashed houses 'tumbling' down the hillside towards the river front and people sitting outside the cafes around the village square, passing the time of day!
The centre of Ferragudo is small but very cosy and gives an impression of the real Portuguese life. The picturesque alleys lead you to the many typical bars, fish- and grill restaurants. The nearest beach, Praia Grande, is a short 10 minute stroll from One2seven.
Nearby there are magnificent beaches and villages such as Praia dos Caneiros and Praia do Carvoeiro. Golf courses, tennis clubs, shopping centers, cinemas, cultural centers, museums and nightclubs are only a short drive away. New is the award-winning racing circuit of Portimão (Autodromo de Portimão).
The many organised events, such as festivals, exhibitions, live music and sporting events make your stay even better.
Portimão
The metropolis Portimão is just a stone's throw away from Ferragudo (across the river, only 5 minutes by taxi boat). You can eat grilled sardines in the typical fish restaurants, go shopping, walk on the promenade along the banks of the Arade,... In April 2011, the new AQUA Shopping Centre opened its doors, with 132 stores and over 20 restaurants.
Praia Da Rocha
With its vibrant nightlife, sport and music events and great shopping streets, Praia Da Rocha is a nice entertainment area and definitely attractive to youth.
Alvor
How about a romantic walk on Praia da Rocha, past the cliffs and rock formations of Praia do Vau and Praia dos Três Irmãos all the way to Alvor? You will enjoy the phenomenal view of the cliffs and the beautiful ocean. In the small fishing village Alvor, there are fine shops, restaurants and bars.
Silves
Silves is the former Arab capital. The red Castle of Silves, standing majestically on a hill overlooking the city, has been beautifully renovated with a magnificent floral courtyard. For five dollars you can visit the fort and the old tanks, which the Arabs dug to provide water to the city. The view you get is spectacular!
Monchique
Monchique is the volcanic mountain which protects the mild climate of the Algarve against northern influences. Between Monchique and the town of Portimão is the village of Caldas de Monchique that was developed in Roman times as a Spa. Here a visitor can try the curing elements of the hot spring water that emerges at a constant temperature of 32ºC.
West Coast
You travel along Lagos, the historic city that was the base for the voyages of Discovery, towards Cabo de São Vicente, the westernmost point of the Algarve. At this point the cliffs rise nearly vertically from the Atlantic to a height of 75 meters. Rough waves, high cliffs and the wonderful weather including high winds, this is surfers' paradise!
