The Mallorca/Majorca region
This area of Mallorca is very unspoilt, set in a very rural area between the two country towns of Porreres and Felanitx. The area is renowned for its white wine which at one time used to be exported from Porto Colom to France. Capers can been seen growing in the fields along the route from Felanitx to Campos. Opposite the house, the fields have been used for growing, tomatoes, peppers, and melons.
Porreres also approx. 5 kms away is a country town that is home to handicrafts of everyday objects. Once a year at the end of October the 'Sa Fira' fair is held where the local handicrafts of copper kettles, cast iron pots, pewter goblets and home made baking tins are proudly displayed. There are many antique shops with metal workshops connected where visitors can watch the artisans at work and then purchase the newly made product such as a traditional 'picarol' - cowbell made exactly as they were hundreds of years ago.
Felanitx area
Felanitx offers all amenities. A palm lined square with bars where locals gather at the end of every day to catch up on the days news. A large weekly market held on a Sunday market takes place in the town square and adjacent roads. There is a beautiful chuch Sant Miguel founded in 1248 with a facade and steps that are a fine example of Baroque style. The portal and and windows at the side of the church were carved during the Renaissance.
There are local tennis courts which can be hired at the nearby Poli sports Centre.
'Sa Coma' is set within the area of the Caves and Monasteries tour to be found in the 'Landscapes of Mallorca' book by Valerie Crespi-Green which gives walks, car tours and picknicking suggestions.
Porto Cristo is a Roman port and is a major tourist attraction due to the Cuevas del Drac and Cuevas del Hams. The Cuevas del Drac are 1, 700 metres long. There is an interior lake which is 177 metres long and 40 metres in width. A musical show is performed on the underground lake. There is also a beach at Porto Cristo with all amenities.
Reserva Africana - autosafari is located on the PMV402-3 between Porto Cristo and S'Illot. You can either drive your own car or take the train. Ideal for children or young at heart adults. There are many animals, rhinos, elephants, ostriches, giraffes, hippos, monkeys, crocodiles and lots more. There is also an elephant show twice a day.
