The Balearic Islands region

Mallorca is the largest of the 4 Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean which are about 200 km off the coast of Spain.

The Balearic Islands have the highest number of hours of sunshine in Europe and the climate is hot in summer, warm in Spring and often still pleasant in Winter.

Mallorca is only about a 2 hour flight from Europe making it rightfully a popular holiday destination.

Known as the “ Golden Isle”, the island is full of history and sights, from its castles , caves and spectacular mountains to the beautiful historic city of Palma with its cathedral built right by the sea. Being only 75 km across every thing is within easy reach and you are never far away from some of the most beautiful beaches and coves in the Mediterranean.

There is something here for everybody and they say once visited you will always come back. Come and see and enjoy for yourself.

Casa Verde is a great house for families or friends sharing.

It is situated in the unspoilt countryside of the SE of Mallorca on the slopes of San Salvador mountain with lovely views across the island but is only 5 minutes by car or a 20 minute walk down the old pilgrim track to the town of Felanitx with its shops, cafes and well known Sunday market.

Felanitx has a palm tree lined square with bars and cafes where you can sit outside and sip an ice cold beer or a fresh orange juice or have a locally made ice cream or a " Menu del dia" at lunch time. It is an easy 35 minute drive from Palma airport and the owners are happy to meet you on your arrival in Felanitx and show you where you can shop at the local supermarket or guide you to the house .

Casa Verde nestles amongst pine trees in 4 acres ( 20,000 sq mtrs) of land with almond, apricot, olive and carob trees and a pine forested hill behind leading up to the San Salvador monastery. The house is built on one level so it is wheel chair friendly, but it also has an outside staircase leading up to a roof terrace with a bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom, and covered porch with seating area and sun loungers for those who want more privacy and fantastic views across the island to the far mountains or of the stars in the beautiful night sky.

The ground floor of the house has an entrance hall, a kitchen/dining room with a 5 burner gas hob and gas oven,a fridge and dishwasher and dining table for 8. There is a cosy living room with an open fireplace and English and German satellite tv and WiFi. There is one double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with walk in shower and another double bedroom and twin bedroom which share a family bathroom with bath/shower and washing machine. All the bedrooms have French windows which open on to the terrace or garden. The kitchen opens onto a covered dining terrace with a barbeque where you can sit and watch the sun go down and the terrace facing the pool is a great place to sit and relax and watch children enjoy the pool.

The lawned garden has a 10 x 4 metre pool, poolside shower , loads of potted plants and flowers, pool loungers, sun umbrella, croquet set, and the pool can be seen from the kitchen or front patio if you need to keep an eye on children . At the back of the house is a hammock under the shade of pines where you can retreat with a book and a glass of wine. There is plenty of parking space but the land is not enclosed so we cannot unfortunately accept dogs.

Cleaning and fresh linens including beach towels are provided weekly on Saturdays. There is a hair dryer, a cot and high chair, some children's toys and games and we provide cleaning materials for the kitchen for your use during your stay.

Casa Verde is a lovely, peaceful base from which to explore the area, a day out in Palma's beautiful old city or the Traumontana mountains are all within easy reach.

The English owners , Max and Sue live locally so can also provide private yoga classes and massage and arrange for locally made paellas to be delivered to the house and provide you with insider information on island life and any help you might need to enjoy your holiday to the full.

The town of Felanitx is situated in the SE of Mallorca at the foot of the mountain monastery of San Salvador in the hills of the Serra de Levant only 45 minutes from the capital city of Palma and 35 minutes from the airport. It has a palm tree lined square with shops and cafes, a few art galleries , supermarkets and a beautiful baroque church of golden stone and a well known Sunday market. It is well worth the ten minute drive to the top of San Salvador for the spectacular views across the whole island. The Monastery dates back to the 13thC and has a charming little church, a wonderfully old fashioned restaurant and the old monk´s cells have been recently converted into a small hotel with fantastic views .You can sit on the restaurant terrace with a cold drink and watch the beautiful sunsets and see the sparkling lights of the little towns along the coast.

Felanitx is only 15 minutes inland from the sea and the town of Porto Colom with its' old fishing cottages and marina. There are excellent restaurants that look out over the bay where you can watch the boats, swim or go kayaking .There is a popular glass bottom boat that makes trips from here along the coast to the white “ Ibizan” styled resort of Cala D'Or built around its 5 pine tree lined coves, the pretty Porto Petro with its little marina and on to the quaint little fishing village of Cala Figuera.

The resort of Cala DÓr (15 minutes from Felanitx) has 5 little coves with turquoise blue water surrounded by pines, most within walking distance of the centre or by the little “train” bus ,great for children and adults alike. There is a pedestrian area full of restaurants, bars ,a few discos , a mini golf, children's play area with go carts and trampolines, windsurfing and diving. Something for everybody. The architecture is all low, white Ibizan style set amongst pines, and the marina has stylish restaurants and bars and there are No high rise hotels.

Further along the coast is the town of Santanyi which has become quite trendy with a few boutique hotels, nice shops and restaurants and a very popular twice weekly market and further still but only 35 minutes from Felanitx is the unspoilt , protected, 3 k wild beach of Es Trenc with its' salt pans, water birds and growing artesan salt business.

Also in the Felanitx area you can horse ride , play golf or tennis, go mountain biking, hiking or visit some of the local wine “bodegas” or the 11C Castel de Santuary .On the coast there is windsurfing and scuba diving and many good country restaurants are only a 10 minute drive away in the popular villages of Cas Concos and Calonge.
