Maison de Famille
About the home
When we found this original 17th century stone villa right on the river near Callian, it had been abandoned for many years and left to decay. It was love at first sight for us, and we spent six years restoring the property to its traditional charm.
As we chipped away the worn-out additions of the years, we discovered the house's authentic personality, such as the original stonework throughout. Finally, the potential we saw has been realized in the fully equipped, family-friendly French country house that it is today.
We have designed and appointed this house for our personal pleasure and comfort. Our family enjoys retreating from the noise and pace of the city to the particular style of casual tranquillity found only in Provence. We are delighted to share this sunny, south facing home with you, and invite you to enjoy all the comforts and pleasures of Provençal life at Maison de Famille de Callian.

The famous coastline of the Côte d’Azur is a long succession of elegant resorts with “mega” yacht filled harbours at Monaco, Antibes, Cannes and St Tropez, and many more. With the pre-Alpes tumbling down to meet the sea, the coastal and inland scenery is quite amazing; from cornice hemmed coastlines, through gorges, to ski resorts above. Walled villages perched on rocky outcrops are scattered all around rise above the sea , where they were built for safety in the Middle Ages. Some famous, like St Paul de Vence, others yet to be discovered by the tourists.
There is a huge Italian influence to the area from the border at Menton as far as Nice and beyond. And this is very much reflected in the food and culture. Inland there are excellent lakes for sporting activities, at Lac St Cassien and Lac Ste Croix, providing excellent alternatives to the beach, with canoeing, windsurfing and pedalos. A number of islands sit off the coast, the Isles de Lerins from Cannes and the Iles de Hyères from the Var coastline, all fully accessible by one of the numerous boat trips offered along the coastline.
The region hosts many international events including the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes Film festival, both every May. In July and August there are truly magnificaent firework displays set to music , and held at almost every resort along the coast, plus a series of music events incuding the Nice and Juan les Pins Jazz festivals with many international artists performing.
Cultural events take place all along the Riviera and many famous people have lived in the area such as Cézanne, Chagall, Picasso, the Picasso museum is in Cagnes sur Mer and Renoir, whose museum is just inland at Cagnes old town. Matisse designed and decorated the chapel at Vence. You can visit glass blowing at the factories at Biot, pottery in Vallauris and the famous perfume industry at Grasse.
The Fayence / Callian area
Perched on rocky foothills overlooking the plain, Callian alleyways spiral up to the castle, whose towers date from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and was restored in 60 years. On the church square, the cascade is fed by the waters of the river Siagnole. The neighboring plaza offers a panoramic view of the massive and Tanneron Estérel, as well as the nearby village Montauroux. You will also have access to an exceptional view of the plain, the Esterel and the village of Fayence from the highest point of the village at the foot of the castle.
Callian, an authentic village has always attracted individuals of Arts and Letters: Juliette Adam, Anthony Burgess, Fernand Léger, Christian Dior, Sister Emmanuelle Edouard Goerg and whose castle is also Callian.
Near-by Lake St Cassien is a very famous for its fishing of carp, trench, crayfish, pike, trout, catfish ... but it is also possible to hire a canoe, pedalo, rowing boat or just go swimming. There are many restaurants situated all around the lake for lunch, dinner or just a snack on shady terraces with stunning views of the lake.
The spectacular Gorges de Verdon and it's Lac Ste Croix are approx 45 minutes drive, offering white water rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, hiking, etc.
Golf, fitness, tennis and a spa are offered at the near by luxury Four Seasons Resort, “Terre Blanche”
