BookThe Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
The Var area is part of Southern Provence. Well known for its medievil hill-top villages, the landscape is generally terraced hillsides and many of these terraces were built by the farmers to grow the flowers that were needed for the perfume industry in Grasse.
Although the area has been frequented for several years now by the astute tourist, it remains unspoilt and welcoming.
The Fayence area
Fayence is a busy town with good local amenities. There is a market 3 times a week and some good restaurants. Le jardin Fleurie has a good provencal menu. La France is an excellent retaurant in the centre of the town.
There is a watchtower with wonderful views at the top of the town. Most of the supermarkets ( Super U in Fayence, Intermarche and Leclerc on the main road) stock not only fresh local produce but also some English groceries. There is also an open-air theatre with a varied and full summer program. The next door village of Seillans has a potterie festival in August and there are several antiques festivals in the area.
The flying club of fayence is one of the largest in Europe. There is a 4 star golf resort with 2 eighteen hole golf courses. The Lac de St. cassien has beaches, pedaloes and water sports.
