The Algarve / East Algarve region

The Algarve is Portugal's holiday playground blessed with all year round sunshine, unpolluted blue skies, endless beaches and the friendliest polite people you could wish to meet. The region is well served with shopping malls, lively markets with regional produce and crafts, also offer a wide variety of activities and entertainments.
For a change from beachlife there is dolphin-watching, scuba-diving, surfing or fishing, visit the famous Oceanarium and swim with dolphins, splash away at many waterworlds or enjoy a luxury boat cruise along the spectacular beautiful coastline, You can also bicycle, ride a horse and walk in unspoilt countryside.
With golf as choice activity there are Europe's top courses to hand and in the Algarve nowhere is too far.
Evenings could include listening to traditional "Fado", theatres, some serious clubbing, or simply good eating in the regions vast choice of restaurants famous for fresh food.
Unlike the central and west Alagarve's bustling and crowded tourist resorts the Eastern Algarve remained relatively rural and traditionally Portuguese. However local resorts are growing with ever more new arrivals and also holiday visitors from our Northern provinces.
Summers are normally hot and dry with all-round scorched meadows, fortunately the Atlantic offers cool breezes and beaches get packed. A local saying "dia da praia" or day for the beach is very true, fortunately evenings are refreshingly cooler ideal for going out.
Spring an autumn is generally more pleasant and preferred by many visitors. Still mostly warm blue skies maybe an occasional left over shower from winter rains keeps the countryside lush green covered in spectacular wild flowers and almond blossoms.
The Faro / Estoi area
ESTOI (4km) nearest town nestled on the foothills of the Calderao mountain range offers basic shopping. The recently restored "Pink" Palacio d'Estoi is a real sleeping beauty palace and just below are the famous "Milrue" roman temple ruins all worth a visit.

OLHAO (9Km) A flourishing old fisherman town, has a small harbour and jetty with small ferries and water taxis that shuttle across to and fro from the nearby island beaches such as; Armona, Culatra and distant light house island Farol. On the waterfront is a famous fresh fish and vegetables market undercover of two huge Moorish style halls. A bustling daily market and a must see for an insight into day-to-day Algarve living. An endless choice of restaurants makes this town a seafood paradise.
SAO BRAS (10Km) A bustling inland town with adjoining ALPORTEL nestling against the outback cork hills. Convenient shopping amenities plus very affordable restaurants along with the ever popular "Chicken and Chips" Luis dos Frangos " or just "Chicken George"
FARO (18Km) Capital town has lovely cobbled shopping walkways and nearby fortressed old town is worth a wander around, perhaps climb the bell tower of the old cathedral for a splendid view over the city, harbour and airport. From the town centre marina small boats offer group tours of the Ria Formosa Wetland Reserve with its famous birdlife, visiting pristine Isla Deserta for a days beachcombimg amid a myriad of seashells. The shopping mall on the outskirts of town with usual chain stores, cinemas, snackbars and restaurants offers excellent shopping.

We all try to take the risk out of making that first time visit to a holiday destination by doing research on the area and looking at lots of photos, but it's still a worry when you arriv,e that it all might be a huge mistake. Well, do yourself a favour and book yourself a little piece of paradise at "Ninho do Amor". The beauty of the views and the tranquility are enchanting and will remain with you when you regretfully leave. Not sure what to do each day? Karl & Daph are always on hand to advice you where the best restaurants are and how to get to the best beach/beauty spot. They're very friendly and will go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your holiday. Alternatively, relax by the pool, and treat yourself to a BBQ, everything you need is available to make your stay a delight. Would we recommend it? Would we return? 100% YES. |
Guestbook for Ninho do Amor
1. We just want to say a big thank you for your kindness and hospitality during our stay at Ninho do Amor. We had a wonderful week, total relaxation and peace and beauty of the Algarve (as well as great company of course) was just what we needed.
2. We've arrived home safe and sound with many happy memories of a wonderful holiday and sadness that we had to leave so soon. Your kindness and attention to detail meant that we arrived as guests but quickly felt more like friends.
3. I don't know where to begin thanking you for such a wonderful holiday. We have never experienced before such hospitality, generosity, friendship and concern from what was total strangers but whom we now like to know as friends. The Nest and garden are absolutely perfect, the peace and tranquility everything we hoped it would be, and on top of that we were escorted around the local countryside and restaurants by two of the nicest people we have met in a long time. God bless you both
