The Gotaland region

Our house lies between Bohuslan and Dalsland region providing a huge range and variety of things to do and places to explore.

Right at the heart of Bohuslän lies Uddevalla, the region's largest town. The waters of the sheltered inner archipelago present great opportunities for kayaking, sailing and boat trips. You can hop on one of the white archipelago ferries right in the town centre and travel out to idyllic islands and swimming spots. In Uddevalla itself you can get your fill of culture and drama plus all kind of sports, set in fantastic natural surrondings, and there's a great chioce of shops in town or nearby Torp Shopping Centre.

During the summer catch one of the many events hosted in the town - the Motocross GrandPrix in July, the youth handball tournament June Cup, the Oddebollen youth football tourment and the Uddevallakalaset, a family festival right in the centre of the town. For music lovers there's Uddevalla Solid Sound, a festival with some of Sweden's top artists on stage.

While you're in Uddevalla make sure you visit Bohusläns Museum, with its fascinating galleries painting a vivid picture of the history of the region, including stonemasonry and the Great Herring Periods. From there you can take a trip down the coast to pretty Gustafsberg, dating all the way back to the 1700s. Indulge yourself in one of the town's lovely cafes or resturants and then walk back to Uddevalla along the fantastic Strandpromenaden - a beautiful boardwalk hugging the coastline.

Dalsland . Are you one who enjoys a genuine wildlife adventure or would you rather sunbathe on a cozy island on the west coast? If you enjoy biking tours on the Skåne flatlands or chugging along through the Göta Canal, then visit Dalsland! Here you will find almost everything Sweden has to offer.

Dalsland consists of plains, coasts, hills, deep forests, mountains and lakes, all within a radius of just a few miles.Forests, valleys and plains. Dalsland is divided up into forests, valleys and plains. The wilderness and spectacular rolling terrain spreads out over the northern and eastern areas of Dalsland. The rift valleys are often endowed with many beautiful fissure lakes, while the forest valleys turn into hilly landscapes revealing dense forests with cozy lakes and mountains. Even though

our mountains are no more than 300 meters high they can create nature experiences above the ordinary. Along Lake Vanern's south-west coast and a little into the Dalsland countryside the Dalbo plains spread out over a large area with agricultural and farmlands, sometimes called Dalslands granary. So if you think walking uphill is overrated, pack a picnic basket and take a hike through Dalsland´s southern plains where you can even explore Vanern's dalsland beautiful bathing spots and find a secluded little beach.

Lakes galore. With over 1000 lakes Dalsland is Sweden's most abundant lake area. These lakes contribute to the countryside's beauty and that is also why you will often meet people transporting canoes on their cars. This abundance of water and our huge forests provided the foundation for ironworks and industries up to the middle of the 19th century.

The Dalsland canal connected lakes and made trade efficient. As of today, The Dalsland canal and the aqueduct in Håverud are Dalsland's most visited attractions. So why visit the crowded Göta Canal when you can easily glide up the Dalsland canal.

Our inland lake – Lake Vänern, with its archipelagoes and beaches give us our own west-coast where you can easily find your own islet without anyone in sight. Culture Many of the mills and ironworks are for the most part gone but the little industrial communities carry on, each with their own personality and well worth a visit. Here you will find boutiques with locally produced products and beautiful surroundings offering lovely little excursions.

Dalslands rich variety of culture is characterized by its strong folk culture and innovative interaction. Dalsland has glassblowers, city life, moose, rock carvings, trot racing and festivals, almost everything the whole of Sweden has to offer, although we don't have any escalators.

Comfortably situated at Holmevattnet lake about 17 km North of Uddevallah city. Ideally suited for those who enjoy nature but close enough to civilization to fill your stay with plenty of day trips. While there are plenty opportunities in the near area such as hiking, cycling, fishing or golfing, you can enjoy a wider range of options a little further out.
