Dell Cottage
About the home
Dell Cottage is a wonderful rural retreat surrounded by woodland and paddocks set in the Meon Valley. The cottage has views of the river Meon which is a minute's walk away via a footpath. Everything in the cottage is new with three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with a Joseph bunk bed, which is a double bed and a single bed on top - great for kids sharing a room.
On the ground floor there is a separate living room, dining room and fully fitted kitchen. All bedding is supplied along with towels etc.
The cottage is an ideal place to come and relax with your friends and family or use as a base to explore the stunning local countryside and coastline. Locally there are numerous restaurants, golf courses, horse riding centres, tennis courts, Marwell Zoo and Activity Centre, Titchfield Abbey, the list is endless.
Pets are more than welcome although we respectfully request that they are kept out of the bedrooms.

Further details outdoors:
The grounds of the cottage are continually being being improved and there is an area which is still to be landscaped , therefore we have a reduced rent for this season for that reason but it will not affect your stay.
Keep a watch out for the wildlife we have seen in the grounds of the cottage - rabbits are easily spotted! Deer normally once a day if you are keen eyed, badgers for the night watchers and the funniest creature of all - a very cheeky weasel. Overhead look out for the kestrel who often sits on the telegraph pole by the cottage and at the river the heron who catches his dinner close by to the bridge. Buzzards have also been spotted.
Further details
The cottage is available for weekends or full weeks. If you wish to stay for more than one week bedding will be changed after 7 days and the cottage cleaned. Visitors with pets are more than welcome, smokers are welcome but we ask that you smoke outside only.

The Meon Valley is a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. Wickham Village was voted Hampshire village of the year 2008.
Wickham vineyard is two miles away and has the new restaurant from michelin starred Chef Atul Kochhar set within its grounds.
The Fareham / Wickham area
Locally in Wickham there are the Water Meadows to explore, walks along the river Meon, cycle safely along the 32 miles of disused railway line into Gosport. In summertime there is Wickham Music festival and at Easter time the Beer Festival. In Wickham village there is Chesapeake Mill - an old water mill, now an antiques and gift shop, whose timbers come from the United States frigate Chesapeake which was captured by the Royal Navy in the battle of 1812.

we were a group of 4 adults and 2 children and enjoyed a wonderful stay at Dell cottage which is set in a delightful rural location with safe enclosed grounds for the children. There are all amenities within a few mins drive and the local pub (walking distance!) serves great food and the locals are v.friendly! The cottage is decorated to a high standard, v.clean and the kitchen was fully equipped There was plenty to do with the coast only being a 10 min drive , there are plenty of walks from the cottage and we enjoyed a fairly easy cycle ride along a disused railway line, shopping at Chesepeake mill and Wickham square has lovely shops, tea rooms, pubs , wine bar etc We definitely hope to return in the v.near future! |

We (four adults and three dogs) went to Dell Cottage for a week in November 2011 as we were going to the Victorian Christmas Market in the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. We needed a place to stay around Wickham that would accommodate us all, especially the dogs. Dell Cottage certainly fitted the bill! Adrian (the owner) was most helpful when we contacted him both via email and the phone. The entrance to the property is via a gated, unmade drive which can be difficult to find if you are planning a late/evening arrival, so remember to have a torch handy. It's refreshing to find a property so dog friendly, although if you do have a dog who wants to explore on his own,(as Ben our chocolate Labrador did), you do need to supervise them while in the garden as they can get up the bank, through the woods and potentially out onto the road at the top of the hill. It is a very quiet road though, and it would take quite an adventurous dog to do that. On our arrival there was a very nice welcome pack plus butter and milk in the fridge. It is a quaint little cottage. The 2 main bedrooms are quite small with double beds, but they are comfortable although storage/hanging space is very limited. The double bunk room is OK for an adult to sleep comfortably on the bottom bunk. The bed linen is good quality. The bathroom is as stated, bath with shower over, but the room is quite small, and a large family may find this a little too small. I did go and buy a bath mat because the bath was slippery without it, but there are rails to hold on to. The bath towels are of good quality and there are plenty of them! The stairs are quite steep, could be tricky for those with limited mobility. The kitchen is lovely, very well equipped with access out onto a nice patio area. As the property is dog friendly don't expect pretty flower beds, it's very rural and nothing would be spoilt by running dogs or children both of which would find the garden great fun! The main suggestion for improvement? A second toilet/shower room downstairs would make things much easier, especially for guests who may struggle with the stairs and to ease morning queues! With Wickham close by and a short drive to Portsmouth, Fareham & Southampton, it is ideally placed and we plan to return in the spring. |

We have been at the cottage twice this year; both times we have had nothing to complain about. The cottage is well catered for with dishwasher, washing machine, in fact everything you would expect to have at home. The cottage is located in a lovely rural area with trees and fields all around and not a sole in sight apart from the local wildlife. A short walk away is the local pub that is very friendly and serves good food and drink. If you decide to get in the car, Wickham Square is just down the road approx 1 mile. Here you have great restaurants, (recommend Chinese take away) pubs and shops with late night opening. We found the people in the local area so friendly that i am considering moving down to this part of the world. |
