Thanks for checking out our spacious (about 60 square meters and 40sqm of balcony) retro style apartment in probably the most desirable area of Bangkok. Ari is a fantastic area, and arguably one of the few that feels like a real neighbourhood. It is very nice and quiet by Bangkok standards, and has a very homey feel to the place with tons of great little restaurants, coffee shops and thai traditional massage businesses, all within a five minute walk You will not find the usual tourists and street hawkers selling fake junk here. You might even catch a glimpse of one of Bangkok's insane hipsters riding by on a fixed wheel bike! This area is mainly inhabited by artsy types and local families and a few foreigners who are interested in staying away from the more westernized areas around Sukumvit. The. Sky train is a very short walk- no more then about 7 minutes. And it is an easy place to find from the airport. The airport link station is only 5 stations away.
Our little sanctuary of cool includes a fantastic patio, with great view onto the more quite back lanes of Ari, which means for peaceful nights enjoying twinkling lights and the quieter sounds of city life going on around you. Enjoy a great breakfast of fresh fruit from the seller up the road while sitting outside. Generally a guy selling fresh coconut juice can be found each morning just outside on the street. Give our plants a little bit of breakfast too if you remember as they enjoy a cool glass of water in the mornings.
We have tried to decorate our place to suit or mid-century style tastes and so our furniture is a blend of comfortable and retro. We have hunted the various markets of bangkok to try and find cool and interesting furnishings and knick knacks.
Our little kitchen is pretty well stocked with everything you might need for simply meal. most people don't do much more then breakfast and lunch when in Bangkok, as restaurant food is cheap, varied and abundant, especially in Ari. So we have most of what you need for simple meals, and even a pasta dinner when you feel like a night at home. Our blender is great for whipping up some fresh fruit smoothies in the AM (a helpful tip: get crushed ice from 7-11, at the fountain drink machine. they have bags you can fill up, instead of the big cubes you find in the main cooler). We have a coffee grinder and coffee making implements and enjoy a good cup of java out on our deck. or just open up the sliding doors and let the breeze in and chill on the comfy couch with your morning brew.
The apartment is equipped with two bathrooms, one small guest bathroom (no shower) and a huge ensuite bathroom complete with rain shower. The bathroom is really a great excess. it is about 1/4 of the size of the apartment and as you can see looks like one can spend some quality time there!
We have a nice comfy and firm king sized bed from which to plot your bangkok invasion from, or recover from a not so fun international flight.
The building itself is one of the sturdier older condos, made from solid concrete, so it is quiet and neighbour noises are generally very minimal. The night guard is a very friendly guy too, who will chat your ear off, even if you don't speak Thai. Security is keycard access and the building feels nice and secure.
There is a small jogging park about a block away, and actually Ari is not such a bad neighbourhood for getting a bit of outdoor exercise….. again a rarity for Bangkok!

There is also the usual street vendors and cheap local eating places that server up great local food.
There is a Villa supermarket close by, which stocks everything from imported wine to good bread and cheese to all manner of fruits and vegetables.
Chatuchak the famous weekend market, is only two sky train stops away, or a short 5-10 minute taxi ride away. Also, the new heaven for second hand and retro aficionados, the not to be missed Sat and Sun. Train Night Market is even closer then Chatuchak. Enjoy wandering around looking at flea market treasures laid out by cool looking locals on blankets, or check out the rockabilly bar cranking out swinging tunes. This place rocks and is not to be missed.
A little about us:
We are a canadian/thai couple that spends half our time in our Vancouver home and the other half in our Bangkok home. We are very much into good food, funny and unique places to hang out and exploring the many nooks and crannies of Bangkok. Both my girlfriend and I are into the mid-century furnishing, so the place has a very funky vibe and some nice items that we have collected over the years. My girlfriend grew up here, and I spent 7 years living here and setting up a clothing and accessories business that strangely enough focuses on retro inspired products. We have tasked Bryan with looking after our place while we are not in Bangkok and you will find yourself in great hands. He has lived in Bangkok for over ten years and knows its many corners well.
