A fully restored original Cypriot dwelling in the old city of Famagusta (designated a world heritage site) in Turkish North Cyprus. Surrounded by many cultural relics, and within walking distance of a marina and the beautiful sandy Palm Beach. An ideal base for a relaxed and peaceful break within this fascinating walled city dating back to 800 AD. A short stroll from the city's main square, surrounded a wide selection of friendly bars and restaurants.
No need for a car as everything you need can be reached on foot but a perfect location for touring if you prefer sight seeing within easy access to Iskele, Kyrenia, Nicosia and Karpaz with trouble free boarder crossing, should you wish to tour the South of Cyprus. Just to add icing to the cake the use of the Turkish lira brings Turkey prices making this a great value place to visit, where our guests can afford to get the most out of their break by eating out (a bonus for the cook). An easy 45 minutes from Larnaca airport.
The City has been occupied by the Phoenicians, the Eqyptians, the Persians and the Romans with a brief visit by Richard the Lionheart in 1192. All these occupations have left a fascinating mix of Christian and Muslim architecture and traditions. Divided by civil war in 1974 the relationship between the Turks in the North and the Greeks in the South is very relaxed and there is much border trade and communication.

About this location
The Famagusta District
Flanked to the west by the sea and the east by mountain range, the Famagusta region is steeped in history and an area of great contrast. The walled city is one of the most important fortified forts in the Mediterranean to the North lay the ruins of Salamis the original capital of Cyprus. The city was founded in the 11th century BC and has a long history of invasion and occupation. Famagusta is a Frankish word that means 'buried in the sand'. The old walled town contains some of the finest medieval architecture still standing including the 14th century St Nicholas cathedral.
A port, marina and beach just outside the city walls. A wide range of small shops in the city and many large shops and stalls surrounding the city. A well developed road system giving access to many other sites and destinations.
