The West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall's scenery really is a north-south divide. The north coast with its wild, dramatic Atlantic coastline is more favourable to those seeking adrenaline sports like surfing, windsurfing, sailboarding and so on. However the idyllic south coast with its lush green meandering coastline, 'Gulf Stream' waters and sub-tropical gardens really are in abundance. With its countless sheltered coves the Fal and Helford area are a Mecca for fishing, boating and sailing enthusiasts.
Cornwall's true wonder is its timelessness, its isolation and geography is its charm. Much of its past is still present and Cornwall's history is one of its key attractions. From Tintagel and the tales of King Arthur, to the Eden Project and The world Heritage Site that is the Cornish Tin Mine, Cornwall has so much to offer and its all on your doorstep. Remember that when your in Cornwall you're never more than 18 miles from the sea!
One of the hidden gems in Cornwall is the former capital town of Lostwithiel which also happens to be a Mecca for antique hunters. On the upper regions of the Foye Estuary the Foye river is the heart of the town with its ancient stone bridge and idyllic trout river it really is a picture box town.
The Cornish have preserved many of their rituals and traditions while others have let them fall by the wayside. Annual events bring people onto the streets. Some of the events we class as sports - see the Hurling and the gig racing in Falmouth - others are feasts, linked to the saints' days of various towns like St Just and St Day.
Cornwall creates a mesmerising romanticism that few leave once they have a taste for it.
