The West Country / Cornwall region
Traditionally a place of myths and legends, Cornwall is famed for its long history including King Arthur at Tintagel and many stories of pirates and skulduggery.
Generally warmer than the rest of the UK, palm trees even grow in the region! With a wealth of amazing beaches to explore including Gyllyngvase and Swanpool in Falmouth, where you can also learn to canoe. The more adventurous who want to learn to surf may want to visit the beaches on the north coast which are generally better for surfing. Falmouth has the 3rd deepest natural harbour in the world and is well known for excellent sailing waters.
As well as the beaches, Cornwall is known for its Cornish Pasties, Real Ales and Cream Teas with delicious clotted cream and where better to experience fish and chips?!
If the beaches and food are not enough to tempt you then there are a mulititude of places to visit from museums to castles to amazing gardens (including the world famous Eden Project) and amusement parks such as Flambards and Paradise Park.
Falmouth area
Falmouth is the top Cornish south coast destination and is an ideal location central to all the attractions Cornwall has to offer. A beautiful town with cobbled streets and a mix of high street stores together with more individual shops it is also home to a wide variety of places to eat.
With strong maritime links there is also excellent sailing to be enjoyed but if you would prefer to experience the maritime heritage on dry land, a visit to the Martime Museum is recommended. It can be found at the centre of Events Square and is only 5 minutes walk from the apartment.
With the beaches, town, Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle to explore you may not need to leave the town! In addtion to this there are ferries to the beautiful village of St Mawes on the Roseland Peninsula and deep sea fishing trips that you might want to try.
Across from the apartment is the Princess Pavilion which has a full programme of concerts, antiques fairs and beer festivals, please see their website at www.carrickleisureservices.org.uk for full details.
The famous Falmouth Week takes place the second week in August and is an opportunity to join the South West's largest sailing regatta which rivals that at Cowes. As well as the sailing, Events Square just 5 minutes walk from the apartment, is host to a number of different "nights" usually including 70's Night and Caribbean Night.
The Oyster Festival takes place in October and is an opportunity to try the delicacy in an environment of sea shanties and other delights.
If you do want to travel further afield, the capital city of Cornwall is Truro and is only 20 minutes away and can be easily reached by train (local station 2 minutes walk away) bus, opposite apartment or indeed by car.
Overall Falmouth is an excellent holiday destination with lots on offer locally and often sees visitors returning year after year.
