Cornwall's scenery changes every couple of miles, from upland heath to wooded river valley, from fishing cottage-dotted fishing coves to wind torn cliffs.
One of the wonders of Cornwall is that, due to its timelessness, its isolation and its geography, much of its past is still apparent. Now Cornwall's history is one of its key attractions. From the romanticism surrounding Tintagel and the tales of King Arthur, to the recent history of the Eden Project, Cornwall is trading on its fascinating and often glorious past and present.
The towns and villages each have their own distinct characters to, from the moonscapes of clay spoil that characterise the area around St Austell to the tightly packed streets and houses of Lostwithiel.
The Cornish have preserved many of their rituals and traditions while others have let them fall by the wayside. Annual events bring people onto the streets. Some of the events we class as sports - see the Hurling and the gig racing in Falmouth - others are feasts, linked to the saints' days of various towns like St Just and St Day.
Cornwall creates a mesmerising romanticism that few leave once they have a taste for it.
Falmouth area
Falmouth is Cornwall's leading South Coast Resort and home to the county's maritime heritage. Here you will find sandy golden beaches, spectacular scenery, specialist shops from local art to antiques and exceptional sailing in Carrick Roads and the Fal Estuary.
Falmouth's natural harbour is the third deepest in the world and provides a picturesque background to the bustling cobbled main shopping street. Unsurpassed views of Flushing, St Just in Roseland, St Mawes, Falmouth Bay and beyond, can be glimpsed between the buildings, or from the charming opes and walkways meandering through the town.
For Divers you are about five minutes walk from Cornish Divers who operate diving expeditions in and around the Falmouth waters.
Yachtsmen are superbly catered for, Falmouth being one of the deepest natural harbour in the world with world class sailing conditions. Falmouth Yacht Club is a 15 minute walk from the house, and Falmouth School of Sailing only 4 minutes away, call Rob to book your first lesson now on 01326 211311.
Falmouth has a great family appeal, non pretentious, a true working port surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastline.
In the main street you will find a delightful mix of shops from individual specialist outlets to well known high street names. Falmouth's abundance of cafés, restaurants and hotels offer a selection of world-wide cuisine and traditional Cornish food. You can indulge in the delights of a Cornish cream tea, taste locally caught seafood, traditionally made ice cream, locally farmed organic produce and don't forget the famous Cornish Pasty!
Sight seeing in the Falmouth area could not be easier - climb aboard one of the many pleasure boats and passenger ferries which ply the local waters to the picturesque St Mawes harbour, Flushing Village, Trelissick Gardens, Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne, Truro and the Helford Passage. For those who prefer terra firma, an open top bus travels continuously in season linking the town beaches and King Henry VIII's Pendennis Castle.
Falmouth is an excellent location for walkers, who can pick up the south-west coastal path nearby; the striking Lizard and Roseland peninsulas are a stone's throw away.
Raze The Roof is a 12,500 sq. ft. indoor children's play centre with mega drop slides, astro glide, toddler and baby areas and excellent cafe for hot & cold food & drink for all weather fun, all year round. You have a free and unlimited pass when you stay at Church House.
For a fun family day out Flambards theme Park at Helston is only a 15 minute drive away. Established nearly 30 years ago as the Cornwall Aircraft Park the Flambards Experience is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cornwall. Not only does the Theme Park host the best thrill rides in Cornwall, but also the Flambards Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz indoor tourist attractions.
