Fish Cross Cottage
£325–£850 / week
About the home
The cottage itself is rebuilt on an original Victorian site and so has been elevated above tidal flood levels and is best appreciated from inside. High ceilings and bright, airy rooms with a thoroughly contemporary 2012 renovation make this feel a spacious accommodation.
The large dual-aspect lounge diner is flooded with natural light and leads to the newly fitted kitchen, which has everything you need to self-cater. It is simple to keep clean, and a slim line dishwasher takes care of washing up while a washer drier caters for a family wash.
The front bedroom is spacious with a light airy feel and plenty of storage space and a reading corner with adjustable lighting and plenty of sockets.
Bedroom two is a medium sized double with a single or twin bed arrangement.
A modern bathroom has separate bath and shower. The bath is long and deep, perfect for when you want to pamper yourself. There is also a waterproof sound system in the bathroom that receives preset radio stations or takes an iPod or MP3, enjoy.
The dining area, and indeed the whole house, is specified and equipped for 6 guests - though that would necessitate use of the comfortable sofa bed in the front room.

Further details indoors:
The house is not easy for less able access, with high front door steps above the tide line and a staircase to reach the bathroom. However, a substantial and comfortable downstairs sofa bed is provided, so please discuss with us the flexible options that we have. A cot and high chair is provided for smaller visitors.
Free WiFi will keep you in touch with home and beyond, and should let you update your online friends with your reports on Flushing life. Gas central heating is fully adjustable and an open fireplace can bring a cheery real fire in on those longer or cooler nights.
Built in an era before environmental considerations, Fish Cross Cottage has been newly renovated with a careful consideration for the environment. In keeping with the look and feel of the village the original sash windows have been refurbished by hand and restored to full working order. All lower panes being replaced with safety glass.
Hot water heating is supplemented with solar water heating and the cottage has been extremely well insulated in the loft, cavity wall insulation and with partial dry lining. There is an eco-friendly water recycling system that uses bath and shower water for the wc. Adjoining walls have been carefully soundproofed to improve privacy, from otherwise very old-fashioned thin walls.
Being located on a street corner, it is also a cheerful spot as everyone passes by on their way to school, ferry, shop and pub. The ferry is only a couple of minutes away at Flushing Quay. Families with slightly older children often value the independence the ferry provides for adult free time out in Falmouth, with the safety of the last ferry bringing everyone home in time for tea.
Older village residents recall the cottage being home to a lady who baked and sold 1 penny pies from the windows and relatives of the family who built the three houses (4, 5 & 6) together are still in Flushing. There is a village hall and snooker table 4 doors away.
Holidays at Fish Cross Cottage will be remembered for years to come!
Further details outdoors:
There is a small courtyard with side gate and we have provided a café table and chairs to enjoy a touch of private al-fresco, although it is very easy to sit on the sea wall and mix with the locals with your drink as the setting sun provides late warmth.
Many Cornish villages have become over-crowded with tourists, but Flushing is much quieter, even during peak season, and it still benefits from a strong and vibrant community. Unlike Mevagissey, Fowey, Padstow, St Ives and similar towns, where parking is notoriously expensive and difficult, all parking in Flushing is free of charge and it is much easier to find a space. We usually manage to park just outside or very close by without difficulty. There is also a small free car park at the end of the street, and further parking on the quayside about 150 yards away.

Changeover days are usually Saturday, but we will consider variations to this and shorter breaks outside peak season. Please ask for more details.
The West Country / Cornwall region
Many Cornish villages have become over crowded with tourists, but Flushing is much quieter, even during peak season, and it still benefits from a strong and vibrant community. The Flushing Regatta and Flushing Art Week are two annual fixtures not to be missed that the whole community embraces.
Flushing has two friendly pubs - The Standard, which was recently renovated and offers excellent food, and The Seven Stars, a more traditional pub with an equally extensive menu. There is also a super bistro restaurant located on the quayside and a well-stocked general store.
A passenger ferry runs a regular service between Flushing and Falmouth. It also connects with the ferries to St Mawes, Mylor, Trelissick and Truro. In summer the Fal River boats offer trips to the gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, and onwards to Truro. A local water taxi service also runs around the bay.
Flushing is easy to reach by car. Penryn is the nearest rail station and connects to mainline services at Truro, which has a direct rail link to London (Paddington) with a journey time of approximately 4 hours. There is also a regular local bus service. Air travellers can fly from London Stansted or Gatwick to Newquay.
The Falmouth / Flushing area
Flushing was a highly desirable place of residence in the eighteenth century and home to many wealthy Packet Ship captains and their families. It continues to retain its appeal to this day with its elegant candy coloured houses that hug the waterfront, observing the colourful vessels that ply the waters, and surrounded by peaceful countryside.
Sailing enthusiasts have access to some of the best sailing waters, several sailing schools and waterside pubs and walking enthusiasts are spoilt with peaceful riverside and woodland footpaths. Flushing is reputed to have the mildest climate in the UK, encouraging Spring to arrive early, Autumn to arrive late and flowers to bloom year round.
The vibrant year round resort of Falmouth is within a short drive or there is a passenger ferry from nearby Flushing Quay. Falmouth appeals to all tastes and ages with its world class beaches and restaurants, excellent shopping and coastal golf course.
