About the home

Opposite the beach (20 yards) at Maenporth, in a slightly elevated position surrounded by sheltering trees, a detached modern house with great views over the beach. Twelve shallow steps lead up through the garden to it and its large terraced front patio (table/chairs) – a relaxing spot for sitting out and enjoying a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Opposite, the coastal path taking you as far as you want to go and, running along one side of the garden, a footpath to Mawnan Smith and its pub (don't forget a torch!). Regular bus service to Falmouth, Helford and Truro.
 
Inside, stylish and contemporary with all the benefits of modern insulation. Hall; large depth-of-house living room with woodburner, TV/DVD, oak floor, French windows to patio and great beach views; fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, drinks chiller) with range cooker (gas hob/double electric oven), butler sink, granite worktops, slate floor, breakfast bar and dining table/chairs at one end with TV, lots of window light and doors to the rear of the house. Stairs down to utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, fridge-freezer, freezer) storing kayaks, wetsuits, a dinghy and outboard, lifejackets and bicycles for your use (at your risk).
Two ground-floor double bedrooms with TV, glazed doors to terrace and en suite shower-rooms (suites). Loo (washbasin).
 
Stairs up to two more bedrooms, both with TV – a big family room with a double (5') and a single with pull-out truckle bed, en suite bathroom (suite with separate shower) and beach views; and a room with 3'6” twin beds (linkable to 7' double) and en suite bathroom (suite plus hand-shower). Cot bed (4' x 2') and folding bed available, by arrangement. This is a brilliant house for a family get-together with lots to do and see in the area.

The West Country / Cornwall region

Cornwall's 'Med': here is Cornwall at its warmest, most sheltered; of creeks and tidal waters penetrating deep inland, deep in woods, silent except for birdsong; of wonderful gardens growing things that live nowhere else outdoors in England (marvellous in rhododendron, camellia, magnolia time, from March to end of May especially); of sailing boats everywhere decorating the sea; of harbour villages where the light is Mediterranean - dazzling in the sunshine. And really very little that is ugly has been allowed to be built.
Here is Truro, Cornwall's (small) capital, with its 20th century cathedral; Falmouth, resort town and cargo/cruise ship/yacht port, superbly sited; and the glorious Helford River. Trewithen, Trelissick, Glendurgan, Trebah, Heligan (Lost Gardens of) and Caerhays are among the finest gardens. In the very middle of Cornwall, Lanhydrock house is very special, so is its garden. Not the greatest area for beaches, but good sandy ones near Veryan and Portscatho, in St Mawes, and around Falmouth and the Helford River's mouth. Not to be missed is St Just-in-Roseland's churchyard; nor - within easy reach - is The Eden Project (see South Cornwall).

The Falmouth / Maenporth area

Maenporth: romantic, spectacular cove beach with wooded cliffs managed by the Maenporth Estate with scuba school, beachside café and award-winning bar/restaurant. Mawnan Smith (pub, shops), 1 mile. Falmouth, 2¼ miles. Watersports, golf, riding and fishing available locally; many beautiful gardens within easy reach.
