About the home

Just over ½ mile from Mylor harbour, with spectacular, panoramic views of the Carrick Roads and Roseland Peninsula, a pretty, 19th cent., detached cottage, peacefully situated and some distance away from the owner's house. Enclosed garden (table/chairs) for sitting out, solitude and enjoying the view.
Two steps up to the front door. Inside, renovated to a high standard and comfortable. Well-equipped kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave); small step down to living room with panoramic views, double doors to terrace, woodburner, sofa bed, TV/DVD, iPod dock; double bedroom (5' bed) with French windows to cobbled sitting-out area (table/chairs); shower-room (suite) with washer-drier. A peaceful retreat in an oasis of calm.

The West Country / Cornwall region

Cornwall's 'Med': here is Cornwall at its warmest, most sheltered; of creeks and tidal waters penetrating deep inland, deep in woods, silent except for birdsong; of wonderful gardens growing things that live nowhere else outdoors in England (marvellous in rhododendron, camellia, magnolia time, from March to end of May especially); of sailing boats everywhere decorating the sea; of harbour villages where the light is Mediterranean - dazzling in the sunshine. And really very little that is ugly has been allowed to be built.
Here is Truro, Cornwall's (small) capital, with its 20th century cathedral; Falmouth, resort town and cargo/cruise ship/yacht port, superbly sited; and the glorious Helford River. Trewithen, Trelissick, Glendurgan, Trebah, Heligan (Lost Gardens of) and Caerhays are among the finest gardens. In the very middle of Cornwall, Lanhydrock house is very special, so is its garden. Not the greatest area for beaches, but good sandy ones near Veryan and Portscatho, in St Mawes, and around Falmouth and the Helford River's mouth. Not to be missed is St Just-in-Roseland's churchyard; nor - within easy reach - is The Eden Project (see South Cornwall).

The Falmouth / Mylor area

Mylor: creek-side village (shops, good food pub, PO, church) with historic harbour (sailing tuition/boat hire, restaurants/cafés on waterfront) in a network of creeks and rivers (fish, birds, sometimes seals and dolphins), 1 mile from Flushing. Last oyster fishing fleet under sail in Europe. Lovely walks. Falmouth, 4 miles. Truro (Cornwall's capital), 8.
