Barn | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
Owl House is a peaceful retreat for two, deep in countryside, but handy for Tremough, Falmouth, coastal walks, Helford River with its coves and creeks - and not too far away from the Lizard, the beaches of the north coast and the Georgian towns of Helston and Truro. We are situated up an unmade track about 1/5 mile long - and also on the footpath to the nearest village of Constantine, a walk which takes about 30 minutes, over stiles, through fields and bluebell woods.
The heavy horses which once worked Tresahor Vean Farm were stabled in what is now Owl House. Owl is attached at the west end to a courtyard of converted mid-19th century barns. The stonework is of unusually high quality for what were once agricultural buildings. The ceiling in the living room area is almost double height and the tall arched entrances with cleverly cut key post, are now glazed, one with a double opening.
Owl has a hall, a large living room/kitchen (20' x 17') and an architect designed cedar extension with double bedroom and a bathroom. A patio garden with table and seating leads from the bedroom's double doors. ( A good place for morning coffee or a meal or a glass of wine - or take a minute's walk to our field to picnic and enjoy the views across the valley at the other side of the farm.)
The house is well equipped, with good quality linen, kitchen appliances etc. There are prints, paintings and flowers - and some textiles from our son and daughter-in-law's printing studio, Particle Press and a Thousand Paper Cranes.. Some of the furniture is from the many independent antique and retro shops in Falmouth High Street. There is central heating and a wood burner with a supply of logs. We offer a welcome pack of a loaf of bread, butter, eggs, milk, tea, coffee and a few treats, just in case you don't want to go shopping right away.
Our seven acre holding is no longer agricultural, but is mostly planted to woodland (apart from the field mentioned above!!). This is a place surrounded by green, where the stars fill the sky. You can hear the owls call, the songbirds sing and the buzzards mewing as they coast the thermal currents down the valley.

The West Country region
This part of Cornwall is noted for its beautiful beaches and coves, and its woodlands and rivers. It is the ideal holiday location for outdoor pursuits, from gentle walking to abseiling, boating and fishing. There are also plenty of historical and archeological sites to explore: castles, churches, stately homes and of course the art galleries, museums and world famous Eden Project. And Cornwall is absolutely a destination for the keen gardener - lots of gardens, both grand and small to visit!
Owl House is situated in the narrowest part of Cornwall, with easy access to both south and north coasts and to the Helford River. It is an area reknowned for its watersports, birdwatching, coastal and country walking. And for manor houses and castles and gardens.
In the village there is a Spar shop and Constantine Stores, which is nationally renowned for its wine and whisky selection. The village farmer's market is on the second Saturday of each calendar month. There are gardens (Glendurgan,Trebah and Potager for example) and art galleries to visit and good cooking to sample locally, at the prize winning Trengilly Wartha pub or the Potager cafe. There are also good restaurants further afield - just ask for recommendations.
Water sport centres, boat trips, fishing and golfing and a choice of beaches are all within a 8-10 km radius The nearest town is Falmouth with its own theatre and cinemas and family friendly art gallery - and the award winning Maritime Museum. Falmouth also has lots of independent shops, restaurants, cafes and waterside and beachside bars and eateries. And the Georgian towns
of Helston and Truro are not too far away either!
If you want us to track down an activity for you - an art or craft class, a climbing or a sailing course, guided walks etc., please let us know. There is a lot to do for the visitor to Cornwall - and we will do our best to find what suits you.
There are also festivals celebrating fish, oysters, sea shanties, town days with parades and bands..Truro City of Lights is an amazing, exuberant lantern parade. And how about Christmas shopping? Shops and Christmas fairs with lots of gifts from Cornwall's lively craft community - stuff which you would not see anywhere else. Agricultural shows in June and July and in May, Flora Day, with its traditional dances through the town of Helston.
In September, Falmouth hosts the SPLASH festival - drama, dance, installations 20 - 28 September
And in October, there is the Falmouth Oyster Festival 9-12 October, Falmouth River Walking Festival 17th October - 2 November,
Lowender Peran Festival, Perranporth 15-19 October (subject to confirmation, apparently)
November 19th - Truro City of Lights. . . . magical!
Trereife Christmas Fair 21-23 November in Penzance

We decided on the spur of the moment to have a few days away in Cornwall. Owl House seemed to fit the bill and it didn't disappoint. The converted barn is an annexe to the main house. It is beautifully and newly fitted out, very warm and cosy and with a great wood burning stove. The bed was huge! We loved the peace and quiet, although we were sorry not to meet the owners as they were away at the time. But a local farmer met us in the lane and chatted for at least an hour, so we didn't feel too alone! Owl House is a great place to recharge the batteries. Only one thing - there was no signal for our phone so in an emergency, not sure how we would have summoned help - but this was only because the owners were away at the time. Can't recommend this lovely place highly enough. We will return.

"Peace, quiet and tranquility - all can be found here."
A last minute booking, but so glad it was made.
Peter and Jenny have created beautiful self-catering accommodations in Owl House and Hafhouse, and we were fortunate enough to be able to stay in each of them.
We had a week booked in Owl House, with an additional night spent in Hafhouse. We arrived late on Friday evening, yet Owl House was very welcoming, with a couple of lights left on so we didn't turn up at a dark house (nobody likes doing that, after all). We had been left a lovely welcome pack consisting of a lovely loaf of bread, milk, cheese, butter, eggs, ground coffee and home-made chutney. Not to mention the lovely flowers positioned around the house. From the moment we arrived we felt completely at home.
Owl House and Hafhouse are well appointed, clean, tidy and spacious. The conversions from their former life as barns have been nothing but inspirational. The photo's in the listing on Holiday Lettings (http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/falmouth/178898) are great but really don't do it justice. Owl House anf Hafhouse are ideal 'get away from it all' places to stay, where you can forget it all, and just enjoy the wonderful surroundings and Peter and Jenny's hospitality.
From a location point of view, Owl House is pretty much half way between Falmouth and Helston, so very accessible.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
Thank you and we're glad you had a good time while you were staying with us! Owl is available for peaceful breaks all year round, but future customers might note that we regret that Hafhouse is no longer open for holiday bookings.

"peace + tranquility"
We had a wonderful week of peace + tranquility at this lovely cottage. The cottage is beautiful and a credit to the owners , everything was spot on ,the milk in the fridge so we could have a cuppa after our long journey was a godsend . The owners even gave us a nice loaf of bread + eggs to start us off it was a nice gesture. The cottage was very very clean when we arrived, and pete +jenny gave us a warm welcome, they are lovely people. Location of the cottage is down a little lane but you are not far from anywhere Falmouth is just down the road ,there are beaches not to far away ,i could go on and on its just wonderful .
