The Blue House -true to its name- sits prominently within a row of three quaint cottages at the end of a pretty street as it curves to meet the waterfront of Flushing. Once part of a chapel, this was one of the first properties we discovered in this delightful village.
Impeccable attention to detail and high quality furnishings are two of the aspects guests often comment on following their stay in this lovely property. This generously proportioned house has been stylishly decorated throughout in a seaside theme, combining white painted walls and neutral furniture with cosy throws and cushions in soft blues and pebble shades. The owners have placed carefully chosen pieces of art with a nautical theme and bespoke items of furniture around the home to enhance the stylish décor. The quality of furnishing used in The Blue House is evident throughout, from the polished wood and Cornish slate floors to the chrome fittings in the bathrooms and kitchen.
Ideally suited to families, this characterful house is set out over three floors. Once through the welcoming front door you are greeted by a spacious hallway with clean, white walls and contrasting grey Cornish slate flooring, setting the calming atmosphere which continues throughout this lovely property. Off the hallway, the impressive living/dining room with polished wooden floor has been immaculately decorated and thoughtfully furnished to provide an ideal space in which to enjoy precious time together. The focal point of the seating area, boasting a pair of large comfy sofas, is a cast iron wood-burning stove set underneath a particularly attractive stone mantel. For those times when you crave a little high-tech entertainment, the owners have provided a flat-screen LCD television with Sky Plus, a DVD player, a Sony Playstation 3 and a comprehensive DVD and book library. High-speed broadband Wifi is also available free of charge. An extending oak dining table with six leather chairs completes the dining area of this spacious room, providing the perfect place for long, leisurely meals showcasing the best produce Cornwall has to offer.
The kitchen is located to the rear of The Blue House and is no less delightful than the rest of this property. With two windows and a skylight, sunlight bounces off its white walls, vaulted ceiling and contemporary white tiles, making this a lovely room to sit in and enjoy an early morning coffee. Soft blue painted cabinets and grey Cornish slate floor continue the seaside theme and your every need has been catered for with modern, built-in appliances including a dishwasher and washer-dryer. A table with pretty wicker chairs creates a useful alternative eating area or additional space for convivial food preparation. A high chair is also provided for those with young children.
An external Mediterranean-style courtyard awaits you beyond the kitchen. Simply decorated with painted white walls and attractive planting, this lovely spot is equipped with a table and chairs and provides an invaluable extension of the interior living space to enjoy on those gloriously sunny days.
On the first floor you will find a luxurious bathroom, fitted to the same high standard you will have come to expect from The Blue House. The deep bath with shower attachment and WC are of a contemporary style and classic white in colour, with chrome fittings. The white wall tiles with pretty pebble detail form a crisp contrast against the grey Cornish slate floor. As with the additional shower room on the floor above, this family bathroom is equipped with quality towels and soaps for your use.
There are two bedrooms on the first floor, both decorated in the fresh, seaside colour scheme as the rest of this stylish property. To the front of the house, the double room boasts a king-sized bed and is flooded with light by the window, from the side of which you can look over the river towards Falmouth. The second bedroom on this floor has twin beds views overlooking the courtyard to the rear of The Blue House. Both bedrooms have been thoughtfully designed to ensure that guests can rest in comfort and benefit from adequate storage space during their stay here. Quality bed linen is provided in all bedrooms and a travel cot is available for those with very young children.
The third bedroom is located on the top floor of this generous house; an impressive loft room with twin beds and an en-suite shower room with WC. This additional bathroom shares the same contemporary style as the main bathroom, with crisp white furniture and tiles, modern chrome fittings and grey Cornish slate floor.

We have had so much positive feedback from guests at our other Flushing property, The Green House, that we have replicated the mix of retained traditional features and modern luxuries, including a new kitchen and bathrooms, quality wood and leather furnishings, slate and timber floors, flat-screen TV's with SKY Plus, wood-burning stoves and complimentary wireless broadband.
The Blue House will comfortably sleep six adults in three good-sized bedrooms - one with king-sized double bed and two with twin beds. There are two bathrooms one with deep bath and the other with a large walk-in shower.

To the rear of the cottage is a cosy courtyard. This is a real sun trap and has a jungle feel, with bamboo screening, outdoor lighting and a table and chairs for al-fresco dining.
There is a Sony Playstation 3 console with games, a comprehensive DVD library, and a book exchange.
For young children there is a cot and high chair at the holiday cottage.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome!
The West Country / Cornwall region
Flushing is perfectly placed to explore all of Cornwall. it is one known to be one of the warmest villages in the UK because it has an idyllic sheltered south-facing aspect, between the banks of the Penryn River and Falmouth Harbour.
It became popular in the eighteenth century as the choice location for the wealthy Packet Ship captains, and was visited by Admiral Nelson. Latterly it has become one of the most sought-after locations anywhere in the West Country. Flushing has an unrivalled mild climate, streets lined with picture-postcard traditional terraced fisherman's cottages, and beautiful unspoilt surrounding countryside.
There is also easy access onto some of the best sailing waters anywhere in the West Country, with the Helford River, the Fal Estuary, Falmouth Bay and Mylor Yacht Harbour all within reach. Flushing also has a Sailing Club that welcomes guests, and it's own dog-friendly beach.
The Falmouth / Flushing area
Many Cornish villages have become over crowded with tourists, but Flushing is much quieter, even during peak season, and it still benefits from a strong and vibrant community. The Flushing Regatta and Flushing Art Week are two annual fixtures not to be missed that the whole community embraces.
Flushing has two friendly pubs - The Standard, which was recently renovated and offers excellent food, and The Seven Stars, a more traditional pub with an equally extensive menu. There is also a super seafood restaurant located on the quay, a friendly well-stocked general store.
A passenger ferry runs a regular service between Flushing and Falmouth. It also connects with the ferries to St Mawes, Mylor, Trelissick and Truro. In summer the Fal River boats offer trips to the gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, and onwards to Truro. A local water taxi service also runs around the bay.

Flushing is easily accessible - 30 minutes by car from Truro. The nearest train station is Penryn with direct links to mainline Truro. Flights to Newquay airport are regular.

The Blue House is close to the waterfront and only yards away from two pubs both of which are friendly and serve good value food. The house itself was very well presented with only understandable wear and tear after the busy summer season, the only improvement we can think of would be the provision of mirrors in the bedrooms as well as the bathrooms. The cleanliness and stylish yet comfortable décor make staying in a pleasure, whilst the South West aspect, proximity to the passenger ferry across to Falmouth and to walks around and across the peninsula make going out equally enjoyable. It is hard to find a fault with the location except that car parking in Flushing is essentially an on street lottery so we never managed to park in front of the house and often found it hard to get out the front gate because someone had parked across it.

The house was of an excellent standard, the cleanliness good and the general location excellent too. We're previous visitors to the are so this is not a snap holiday statement. My work also takes me to the area so I'm probably a little bit "picky."
Of note are the walks in the area which take you through a good mix of countryside and seaside locations in the same walk. The food at the loacl pubs and cafe is of a good standard and combined with the day-to-day activity we ate copiously and came home with only a small weight gain.
A wet day had us on the ferry to Famouth and a round of shops, museums and a walk to Pendennis. The walk overlooked the port which for someone with nautical interests was fascinating.
Sailing in this area is excellent as long as you can find a location to sail from. We would choose Mylor as it has reasonable 24 hour waterborne access to the Carrick Roads and Flushing is close.
