The Fife region

This region has a contrasting landscape of lochs, mountains, forests and coastline and it's therefore no coincidence that it's one of the most popular holiday destinations in Scotland. Its popularity is easy to understand when you consider the mouth watering attractions within its boundaries; which include the beautiful Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park in the west and the wonderful forests, mountains and rivers which are characteristic of Tayside and Perthshire to the east. The city of Stirling can also be found in this area, with its rich historical significance in Scottish history and connections to William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. The beautiful and unique coastlines here, both on the west coast and east coast, are ideal holiday destinations. Stretching in the west from Oban in the north down to Strathclyde and the Ayr coast, and in the east the coast extends from Dundee and Angus south the along the Fife coast to Edinburgh.

This area enjoys superb motorway links to the rest of Scotland so guests are spoilt for choice should they wish to venture further afield. The mighty city of Edinburgh for example, Scotland's beautiful capital, is only approximately one hour away by car and has a range of amenities for tourists that no other city outside London can match. The shopping is fantastic and there are numerous attractions such as Edinburgh Zoo and the Scottish National Portrait Galley to visit. Fife itself is a well established area for outdoor sports and offers numerous venues for cycling, fishing, pony-treking and golf in particular. The courses here are second to none and of course the course at St Andrews enjoys an international reputation. Walkers should sample the trails within the Lomond Hills, located just behind Falkland Village, or perhaps try a stretch of Scotland's ‘Coast to Coast' walk, a long distance footpath running all the way from Oban to St Andrews. Highly recommended are visits to Scone Palace, the coronation venue for generations of Scottish monarchs, the beautiful town of St Andrews, the museum of the famous Scottish Regiment the Black Watch and the sublime Dunfermline Abbey. Fife is a gorgeous holiday region and superbly located for sampling the best of other parts of the country.
