The Cotswolds region
Online magazine AskMen.com has compiled a list of the top ten ‘paradise’ locations around the world that seem to have remained untouched by civilisation. The Cotswolds is 2nd Place! The region is famous for its ancient mellow ‘honey’ coloured limestone villages that blend perfectly into the countryside and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300 years. This sequence of events now makes the Cotswolds region one of the most treasured, toured and vacationed in England and the UK for nowhere else will you see such timeless uniqueness and heart warming preservation on such a scale.
Many traditional villages within 15 minutes reach, offering tradition combined with chic. Ideal for antique hunters :visit the charming villages of Bourton on the Water (the Venice of the Cotswolds), Burford, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Camden (plus many others), the larger spa towns of Bath (a World Heritage Site) and Cheltenham (famed for it’s beautiful Regency architecture) or Oxford (the city of dreaming spires) and Stratford-upon-Avon is just over 1 hour away.
For those looking for a bargain, Bicester Village offers most sought-after brands at prices reduced by up to 60%.
We are within a short walk to Somerford Keynes, a local village with a Quality Pub and a number of other small villages are within 5 minutes drive, offering local amenities like: Post office, Grocery shop and more Pubs.
The estate is located within the Cotswold Waterpark which provides numerous opportunities to explore either on foot, by bike or watercraft, seasonal cable skiing is also on offer as are sailing, canoeing and windsurfing tuition/hire.
The are several golf courses locally.
An artificial beach on one of the lakes within the Keynes Country Park will keep the children entertained as will the local Butts Farm whilst Magicland in Cirencester is available for very young children if the weather is poor.
Horse riding and bycicle hire is also available locally.
Regular polo matches are played in & around Cirencester.
Cirencester is the nearest town and is only 10 minutes drive, where you will find large Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and a good variety of shops/boutiques, pubs and restaurants.
The town of Cirencester (formerly named Corinium was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) is home to the Corinium Museum, the Cirencester Abbey (the longest known Saxon church in England) and host to regular market days.
Other popular Cotswold towns are within a 40 mile radius (Tewkesbury, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Swindon, Bath, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon)

"Peaceful Cotswolds lakeside break"
Great relaxation at The Lakes. We enjoyed canoeing on the water and the Spa, and there are very pleasant village pubs in the area to try out in the evenings. The Swan at Southrop was our favourite. Lechlade is a lovely little town nearby, with great coffee and ambiance at the Lynwood Cafe.

"Serenity and Comfort"
We rented a 3 bed house as there were 5 of us plus 2 dogs. Very flexible and kind about dogs, something we really appreciated. Excellent bed and bath linen, all the crockery, cutlery, pots and pans we would need, teas, coffees, milk, sugar etc all laid out. Plus a welcome bottle of champagne! And wi-fi! The house was modern, beautifully kept and a joy to be in. Would go back again!
