You can also walk to the beach in 10 minutes along a private footpath through the owner's farmland. The Wales Coastal Path is also within a few steps of the doorstep, with outstanding panoramic views of Cardigan Bay.

A 3 mile journey north will bring you to the sand beach at Fairbourne. Here you can also ride a miniature steam train from the village to the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary. From this point you can proceed to Barmouth on a small ferry which pulls up on a Blue Flag beach at the other side of the estuary. You can also walk or cycle across the estuary along the Mawddach Trail – a truly stunning walk along an old railway line from Barmouth to Dolgellau.

Amongst the best places to eat in the area is George III in Penmaenpool (8 miles), Caffi Ceunant in Abergynolwyn (10 miles) and Bistro Bermo in Barmouth (16 miles by road or 4 miles using the ferry crossing). For a good local tavern, Garthangharad provides an option within walking distance whilst Geroge III in Penmaenpool offers a beautiful setting on the banks of the magnificent Mawddach Estuary.

From historic castles and steam railways to sandy beaches, magnificent walks and cycling routes with stunning scenery, this area provides the perfect setting for a relaxing break in Wales. Not to forget the pony trekking centre on your doorstep and Talyllyn's narrow gauge railway.
