The Kent region
Kent is not called the Garden of England without good reason! There is a wealth of beautiful countryside and traditional villages full of charm to be explored. For history enthusiasts the Kent coast has obviously played a vital role in the defence of the nation throughout the ages. There are no less then 3 English Heritage castles (Dover, Deal & Walmer) within 30 minutes drive of the property. Dover Castle with its Secret War Time Tunnels features an extensive series of events throughout the year. Walmer Castle, the Kentish residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, is very different in character with its beautiful gardens and furnished apartments with its mementoes of previous Wardens including Queen Victoria, Wellington and, more recently, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. For those who like their history with a nautical theme the Historic Dockyard at Chatham gives a fascinating insight in to the workings of the British Navy and our ship-building heritage. We are also spoilt for choice in terms of traditional seaside towns with Deal, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Whitstable and Margate, with its New Turner Gallery, all within easy reach. For shopping enthusiasts Westwood Cross in Thanet is worth a visit. It offers free parking and there is a Casino & Vue Cinema Complex to boot. No visit to this part of Kent would be complete without a visit to the beautiful cathedral city of Canterbury with its Marlowe theatre and wide range of shops and restaurants. Finally, on a good day we can see the coast of France so why not take advantage of our great location to take a day trip!
The Cider Works is in a rural location right on the edge of the Waldershare Estate, the country residence of the Earl of Guilford. We have a request bus stop for the number 89 bus right outside the property but a car would be an advantage to make the most of your stay. For walkers we are just metres away from joining the North Downs Way and a number of cycle routes pass our door. Once in the car we are just a minute from the A256 which opens up the whole of this corner of Kent to explore. The nearest village is Eythorne which is around a mile away and offers a comprehensive corner shop and traditional pub. Whitfield with its access to the A2 is less than 10 minutes drive away. The village itself has a 7/11 store with post office, garage, fish & chip shop, Indian restaurant with takeaway facility, hairdresser, pub and an English restaurant with carvery. Just a minute further on there is a large 24hour Tesco supermarket.

We enjoyed our stay in the appartment. It is very comfortable, very clean, good decoration, easy for everything, well equiped, very calm. The owners are friendly, Amanda is a nice person, Do not hesitate to eat in the restaurant, Amanda's husband is a great cooker, The meal was excellent, the deserts were very good, we took appel tart and a "crème brûlée", honestly, We found its the best. We tasted cider, bought some bottles, and It was a pleasure to make discovery to the family, they appreciated ! The chutney is excellent too. We shall come back, It is a lovely place and we are feeling well.
