The Dordogne region

This region offers crystal clean air and fertile ground in which truffles, nuts and mushrooms flourish, and the local farmers breed geese and ducks to produce

the world's most exquisite foie gras. The hot Summer here is perfect for the vine, where local vineyards produce globally acclaimed wines and many other

regional tipples, like Vin d'Noix.

There are many places of historical interest well worth a visit. All the local Bastide towns of Eymet, Monflanquin, Castillonnes, Villereal and the simply

beautiful villages of Monpazier, Issigeac (with its beautiful medieval houses and bishops palace), Pujols and Penne d'Agenais with its winding streets

and the church at the summit of the hill are all within easy drive.

These Bastide towns, so characteristic of the area, were constructed by both the French and the English when this area was fought over during the 100 Years

War and the towns frequently changed hands, in the case of Castillonnes having been divided down the middle for many years.

There are many interesting places for walkers and day trips. The renowned prehistoric sites of the eastern Dordogne, the famous cave paintings at Lascaux

especially, the old cave dwellings including Roc St Christophe and many caves with wall paintings, etc. There are also the very pretty towns of Sarlat,

Domme set on top of the hills, Roc Gageac on a cliff beside the river and the castles of Beynac and Biron.

The local historic village Eymet is just a 20 minutes walk away or 2Km by car and hosts in July and August the famous night time market. Flower, music, food and wine festivals are ample throughout the summer across all the local neighbouring villages, with a range of activities for groups for all ages in the family within 30 minutes drive.

Bergerac is the nearest largest town, being 25 minutes drive away and has a bowling alley, cinema, go karting and of course cruises and canoe trips along the Dordogne.

The local lakes just 15 minutes drive away have boating, high dive boards, beaches and sport games for all the family, and there are least 2 horse riding stables within 15 minutes drive of our doorstep.

We freely lend our canoe with a soft-easy fit roof rack for you to take out for the day. Ideal for planning a picnic along the local river Dropt and having a fun splash in the canoe with the children.

There are several golf courses ranging from 10 minutes to 60 minutes drive away, which include the famous French course at Chateau Vigier.

Alternatively, cycling from the door step is ideal, with traffic free roads in every direction, fields of sun flowers, corn and vineyards and the sight of such a vast range of birds to enjoy from the saddle . Two bikes and a tandem are freely available for you to use on your holiday here.

Even the night skies are a marvel here, and we even provide a telescope for those perfect clear nights to be fully appreciated.

Spotting your first glow worm in late evening, or enjoying the marvels of the milky way, shooting stars and the perfect night skies are often the lasting memories taken away after a satisfied holiday here at Domaine de Juliette.

"Les Petits Tourtereaux felt like home from home but in the sun"

We stayed in the "Les Petits Tourtereaux" gite and loved every minute. The accommodation was superb with the layout of a 'bed-sit' and a separate bathroom/shower/toilet. There was good privacy - well separated from the other accommodation. Lovely pool and extremely picturesque setting in the countryside but still close to beautiful villages. Great Wi-Fi (free) which allowed contact with "outside world". Just mind your head on some of the doorways - people must have been much smaller 300 years ago

"Perfect, peaceful location"

We arrived early evening to be greeted by Brian who showed us around the Gite and facilities. Everything was just as described and after a long drive we went and had a swim in the lovely walled garden swimming pool, a perfect start to a wonderful weeks holiday.
The Gite is perfectly situated for a quiet peaceful holiday but not so far away from Eymet where there are some lovely bars and restaurants.
Brian, Denise and their family were perfect hosts and made us and our dog very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, they gave us advice on places to visit, restaurants and which vets to use.
We will be returning in September as we really enjoyed everything about Les Petits Tourtereaux.

"A beautiful, restful place to enjoy the sunshine and escape from the rest of the world."

Our hosts were most helpful but not intrusive and the accomodation was pretty, bright and clean. The setting at Les Petits Tourtereaux was really beautiful with traditional Dordogne scenes everywhere you look. We were happy to sit and enjoy the sunshine on the terrace surrounded by fruit trees, butterflies and sunshine. A real escape form everyday life.

The nearest village Eymet, within walking distance from the gite is also very pretty with plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from, and a fun night market on a tuesday to buy fresh produce and wine. The locals are friendly and we found our shopping suprisingly good value for money. If you want to enjoy the region there are lots of other places to visit and enjoy nearby but Les Petits Tourtereaux and Eymet are so delightful it might seem like too much effort!! We loved the bikes that are availble at the accomodation and had much fun riding into the village square for a coffee on several occasions. We did not want to come home and the property is only a 25 minute drive from Bergerac airport so we had no holiday stress to contend with. A perfect sanctuary for those who want to get away from it all.
