The West Country region

The West Country and in particular West Somerset/North Devon has beautiful countryside and fabulous sandy beaches - found at Croyde and Woolacombe. The Exmoor National Park is a haven for wildlife in particular the Exmoor ponies and Red Deer. A host of country pursuits are available, such as riding, walking (Tarka the Otter trail, Two Moors Way etc), sailing, fishing, cycling, golf and coastal cruises to name a few. Exmoor is the home to Culbone Church, one of the smallest in England. The village of Dunster is closeby with historic Dunster Castle, tea shops and galleries. Selworthy, Allerford and Bossington being National Trust villages closeby to explore. Porlock is said to have a micro climate which provides for a long holiday season from April to October.

Porlock (with the infamous Porlock Hill!) is situated in the Exmoor National Park famed for its beauty. Heather covered moorland, beautiful woodland, stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife (including Red deer). There are National Trust villages to explore such as Selworthy and Bossington with their thatched cottages and tea rooms, wonderful walks in the wooded valleys of Horner Water and Hawkcombe to the picturesque valley of Oare, famous for the story of Lorna Doone. Dunkery Beacon marks the highest point on Exmoor and west Exmoor offers the trail of Tarka the Otter.

"Excellent central location for Purlock!"

We had a lovely time in Lowerbourne. Upon arrival we found the cottage in excellent condition, tidy and well loved. Great care and attention has been taken to ensure guests have a very comfortable stay. The beds were fabulous, proper bedding - lovely Egyptician cotton sheets and down pillows! Heaven after a long day! The cottage is really well located to enjoy all Purlock has to offer, with great access to shops/pubs etc. Lovely little garden in the back to enjoy sunny breakfasts!

"An amazing place to have some peaceful holidays"

I was looking for a peaceful place to enjoy nature with my family and
practise some English in a really English place, then, I have found this
lovely country cottage that has completed all our expectations. The cottage
was beautiful and comfortable with all the amenities needed that made us
fell so much at home.
We have being doing trips around the area that was so beautiful and peaceful
Definitely I will recommend to any one that wants to go into a real English
experience to go there.
We Will go again this summer again :)

"A home from home..."

Lowerbourne is situated bang in the middle of Porlock but down a very quiet lane so there is no noise from the light traffic travelling through the village. The local amenities are all close by with s… More

Thank you for your review. The cottage is located in West Somerset, approx. 8 miles from the North Devon border.

"Cosy cottage great value for money!"

My family and I had a great weekend in this lovely cottage. Nicely decorated and cosy sitting room with open fire.
The area is great for walkers...really beautiful scenery. Lots for kids to do too.

"Lowerbourne and the holiday in general was amazing."

I went on holiday with a friend and our two children and I can honestly say that we had an amazing week at Lowerbourne.

The house was amazing, it had absolutely everything you could possible need for a holiday. None of us have slept so well for ages, the beds were incredibly comfortable. The surrounding area is breathtaking with plenty to do and plenty to visit. The children spent hours playing on the beach.

We would definitely return to Lowerbourne and I couldn't recommend it hightly enough.

Thank you for your comprehensive review of the cottage. We do not have WiFi/Internet access.
