The West Country / Somerset region

Porlock is a working village with a good range of shops selling local produce. It has several good pubs and restaurants. It is situated about 45 minutes from Somerset's County town of Taunton and 10 minutes from the Seaside town of Minehead.
There are many pretty villages to explore. Close by are the National Trust owned villages of Selworthy and Bossington with their lime washed thatch cottages, and a picturesque church and village green at Selworthy. A short drive brings you to the village of Dunster with its medieval castle, Yarn Market and working water mill. There are many tea rooms and restaurants within the village.
Situated on the North Devon coast, just twelve miles away, Lynton & Lynmouth are regarded as being 'where Exmoor meets the sea'. Leave the car at home and take an open top bus ride from Porlock to these North Devon towns.
The larger towns of Bridgwater and Barnstable are only 50 minutes away, whilst Exeter can be reached in about an hour and a quarter.
The Exmoor / Porlock area
Described as "The Jewel in Exmoor’s Crown", Porlock is a traditional Exmoor village.

You can also enjoy touring the National Trust villages of Selworthy, Bossington, Allerford and Dunster, all within a short drive, all with a good range of pubs, restaurants and tearooms for you to sample.
There is fantastic walking straight from the cottage ... up Hawkcombe to the heart of Exmoor, over Ley Hill to the high point of the moor, Dunkery Beacon, or up to the top of Porlock Hill for views of Hurlestone Point and Bossington Beach. Then within a short drive the remainder of Exmoor is at your feet ... moorland, woodland and beaches!
